Chapter 84

“Is there a problem, Nicky?” I growl.

He sighs and shoves his hands in his pockets. “Look, I know we got off on the wrong foot when we got here,” he begins.

“That would be the understatement of the year,” I growl, gently fighting against Tiana to keep her behind me. She growls softly letting me know she wants me to release her. I don’t.

“I was an ass, okay. I should have apologized sooner, but I was embarrassed. I didn’t understand what it was like here. None of us did. So, I apologize for being a total and complete prick to you Sebastiana.”

She ducks under my arm and steps up beside me, glaring at me before turning her glare to Nicky.

“What do you want, Nicholas?” she asks him.

He looks down and I have to admit, he looks pretty defeated. He’s either serious or he’s an incredible actor.

“I’m failing,” he says quietly. “I’m failing the Academy, and I can’t seem to get myself right. I have no right to ask, not after how I treated you, but the two of you are obviously the front runners for the leaderboard and you helped Helen on The Beast. So, I was hoping you’d help me too.”

I’m about to tell him no. I want to, but the Alpha in me won’t allow me to walk away from someone who is asking for help. Apparently, my mate feels the same way.

She steps forward. “You’re stuck at level four, right?”

“Yeah, that fucking bar. I’ve broken five ribs since I got to that level, and I still can’t get past it.”

“You’ve let The Beast get into your head. First, you need to stop expecting to be defeated. You’ll never beat The Beast if you expect to. Second, you and I are a bit alike in how we used to come at things. We went head on, pushing our way through without thinking about the consequences of our actions. Would you agree?” she asks him.

“Yeah.” he asks, frowning.

“Shane and Cole are different than we are. They think things through; they take their time and assess before jumping into things. The Beast requires both styles of thought. If bulldozing your way through the level hasn’t work, perhaps you should step back and assess what might work better.”

He frowns, looking thoughtful. “This is a clue, right? You’re telling me without telling me how to get through level four?”

Tiana shrugs. “You’ll have to try it out and see,” she tells him. Then she reaches back to take my hand.

“Good luck tomorrow,” I tell him as we walk to lunch.

She and I have already defeated The Beast in both forms and defeated all the instructors in both forms. The only other person to have done that is Cole. Justin is close, but he hasn’t gotten that far yet, and not all the Alphas feel the need to take on all the instructors. But I’m like Tiana. I like the idea of bragging rights, and it’s made collecting points easier. Nicholas is right. I haven’t been keeping track, but I know that
