"I did." I look up to see a guy, maybe around 18 with brown hair and soft blue eyes. Eyes that were now filled with concern. Memories come flooding back all of a sudden.

This was the Alpha of the land I trespassed on. Ethan, i think his name was. He smiles at me, the soft motion making butterflies erupt in my stomach. Why am I feeling this way towards someone that is not my mate? 'We made a connection when he helped us.' Cleo whispers.

"What happened?" I say, avoiding eye contact with him. I don't care what kind of connection she's talking about but I'm sure as hell not about to let myself get hurt again. He sighs sadly and walks over to me, sitting at the end of the bed.

"You shifted last night, and I had to help you." He says lowly, low enough that if I wasn't a wolf I wouldn't have made it out.

"What does that mean?" I ask worried about what the answer will be. I just had my heart broken. I can't risk letting anyone into it.

"Look Jaelyn. You wouldn't have made it without your mate. You were dying. I had to do something. So I took the place your mate should have been." He says looking at the floor.

"I still don't understand. My wolf said we made 'a connection'. What kind of connection?" I ask nervously, getting more anxious when he tenses up. Before I can contemplate what I'm doing I put my hand on his shoulder, making him relax slightly. I quickly retract my hand, seeing the effect I have on him.

"It means our wolfs have a bond now. It's not as strong as a mate bond but its strong enough to help with your pain. Most of your pain is your wolf hurting but with this bond your wolf will be able to take her mind off of your mate." He answers.
