My date watched as I paid for the other table, and before I left, she pled with me to cover her bill.

But I just smiled and said, "You know why I didn't eat? It's not to set you up. It's your face that makes my stomach turn!"

Ignoring her shouted curses, I walked out of the hotel.

The $300,000 in my account made even her insults sound sweet.

Yet, my moment of excitement was short-lived as my phone buzzed with multiple voice messages from my mother. I didn't need to listen to know what they were about.

That night, I was mocked and became the butt of everyone's jokes.

Since then, I had avoided such events, but Oskar insisted on inviting me.

He probably expected me to refuse as usual. I quickly typed out a response. "Okay. I'll be there."
