Sin POV:
I stood, staring at the funeral pier my mother lied on. My expression was blank but I knew I had tears constantly streaming down my face. Layla never once left my side. She and her entire family have been supportive of my father and me. Even Lucas goes out of his way to talk to me.
My father was now out for blood, the mating sickness already taking effect on his behavior. My father was never really a violent man, but when I walked into his office, his knuckles were busted and bruises and everything in his office was destroyed.
"Dad, what did you do?" I asked. "Sin, I really need to be alone right now." He said. "Please, let me help you." I begged. "No!" He yelled causing me to flinch.
My father's expression softened and he put his hands on my shoulders. "I'm sorry, son. I don't mean to take it out on you. I just need time, okay?" He asked causing me to nod and leave the room.
"Hey, how is he?" I hear Layla's voice from behind me. "The mating sickness has already effected him so much and it's only been two days." I said, when I turned to look at her. "I'm so sorry, Sin. I wish there was something I could do." She replied. "You've done more than enough." I whispered before kissing her cheek lightly.
Later on, Layla's pack came for the memorial. I hated the look of putty in their eyes. It made me sick.
"Sin, if there is anything we can do, all you have to do is ask." Luna O'Connell said. "Thank you, Luna." I replied.
"Sin, I know what you're going through is hard. If you ever need to talk about it, you know where to find us." Alpha Cross told me as he rested a hand on my shoulder.
Layla POV:
It took quite a bit of convincing, but my parents let me stay with Sin that night.
Sin woke up multiple times due to nightmares. He apologized profusely each time for waking me.
My eyes suddenly clouded over. "Layla, you need to come home. Now! It's an emergency." I heard mom in my head. "I'm on my way."
"My mother linked me. She said there is an emergency at home." I told Sin and his father. "Okay, call me so I know you're safe." Sin replied. "I will."
When I got home, my uncle Sam and aunt Ellie were there. "What's going on?" I asked.
"Hunters have declared war on the borders. Hundreds of packs. God knows how many are out there." Mom said. "What do we do?" I asked.
"Honey, this is why we need to see you. Alpha Fisher is in no condition to fight anymore, which means you and Sin need to take over the pack as soon as possible." My dad told me. "What?" "It's the only way, Layla." Sam replied.
