One year later:

Layla POV:

The war between the wolves and humans was growing stronger. We've taken out countless amounts of the hunters but entire packs have been taken out. Sin and Lucas had been hospitalized countless times. Now that Lucas was Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, he was on the front lines with Sin. My father also joined them as often as he could which left us both constantly on edge.

Each night they came home, there was always a flood of relief. I would call mom to tell her Sin had gotten home safe and vice versa with Lucas and my father.

"What are you thinking about?" Sin asked as he wrapped his arms around me. "You. This war. The cost of it all. It's so hard. We've lost so many." I said quietly.

"I know, baby. We'll get through this." He said, trying to reassure me. "We've win the battle, but what about the war?" I asked. "War is fought one battle at a time." He said before kissing my shoulder.

Sandy and I stood at my front door as Dorian and Sin went out for watch duty the next day. Even that keeps me on edge now. "Every day they leave. I always think... What if they don't come back?" Sandy said and looked at me.

I never thought I would be where I am now. After Sin's rejection, I never thought I would find love. Yet my mate came back to me and is now Alpha. Now the man I have given all my love to is fighting a war. One we all may never come back from and I constantly fear for his life.

I try every day to hang on to the words Sin tells me every night before bed. We'll get through this.
