Charlie POV:

Lucas had brought me to a small Italian restaurant that I had never seen before.

I was very nervous and he picked up on it quickly.

When he noticed me start to studded he would gently squeeze my hand calming me down.

I discovered that his mother and father retired once he graduated and he took the title of Alpha. I was surprised to find out that he was a twin and his twin sister was the Luna of a neighboring pack.

He had a six month old niece, Lana, that he absolutely adored. The smile that came across his face when talking about the little girl took my breath away.

Reality hit me all at once and I quickly realized I would be the Luna of his pack soon.

"Will your pack accept me?" I asked him. Lucas frowned at that.

"Of course, Charlie. What makes you think they won't?" He asked. I just looked down and shrugged. "Charlie, is there something you have to tell me?" Lucas asked.

I hesitantly looked at him and smiled softly. "No. I've just always had low self esteem." I replied. "You're perfect, Charlie. I know my pack will love you." He said.

Lucas POV:

Something was off with Charlie. I knew she was hiding something from me, I just couldn't figure out why. There was a specific reason her self esteem was so low.

I thought of the possibility of her being bullied which infuriated me. I needed her to open up to me and I could tell that was going to be hard.

"How old are you, Charlie?" I asked her. "Nineteen." She responded. She gave a lot of shirt answers and it bothered me slightly, but I understood how nervous she was.

Lucas growled quietly beside me. "She was out with me, Luna Smith." He said through his gritted teeth.

"Can I ask why?" She asked. "No." Lucas replied before kissing my cheek. "I'll see you in the morning." He whispered before leaving.

"Care to explain?" My mom asked. I looked down playing with the hem of my shirt. "He's my mate, mother." I replied timidly.

"Mate? Please. Alpha Cross? That's crap." She said bitterly. "It's true, mother." I said.

She slapped me hard on the cheek causing me to bite my lip in pain. "You lying little bitch. No one would ever love you. I mean look at you." Mom said, eyeing me up and down.

"You're fat, ugly, and just plain pathetic. There's no way the alpha of the strongest pack in the country could ever be your mate." She continued before walking upstairs.

I ran to my room, throwing myself on the bed before finally sobbing into my hands. I couldn't wait to get out of here. Lucas was so attentive to me. I hadn't been genuinely happy before today. Before I met Lucas Cross.
