Lucas POV:

I tossed and turned all night that night. Charlie's face never once left my mind. The worry I felt for her, I'd never felt before.

I gave up on sleep and decided to call my sister.

"This better be good Lucas Alexander. I just got Lana to bed." Layla said groggily.

"Sorry, man. I just needed to talk." I replied. "Is everything okay?" She asked, her tone changing.

"I found my mate." I told her. "Lucas, that's wonderful. What's she like?" My sister asked.

A smile instantly came across my face.

"She's beautiful." Then my smile fell. "She's really timid though. It worries me. She has trouble keeping eye contact with me and tried to keep the conversation away from herself." I replied.

"What are you thinking?" Layla asked. "I don't know. I'm going home in three days but I need to get to the bottom of this. She obviously won't tell me." I said.

"What's her name?" Layla asked. "Charlie Smith." "Drew Smith's daughter?" She asked worriedly.

I sat up slowly. "Why did you say it like that?" I asked. "It's probably nothing." She replied. "Tell me, Layla. Should I be worried?" I asked.

"There only rumors, so I don't know if they are exactly true or not." Layla responded.

"Damn it, Layla Rae! Tell me what you know." I said growling. She finally let out a long sigh.

"Alpha Cross is leaving with her in two days, Dianne." My father replied.

"Like hell! That little bitch isn't going anywhere." My mother said.

My heart quickened. We're they really going to force me to stay?

"We force him to leave her here and he declared war on us until he has her. He is so much more powerful than us. Do you really want that?" My father asked.

"Why her?" Mom asked a bit quieter. "I don't know. But she sure as hell doesn't deserve it." My dad said bitterly bringing tears to my eyes.

I slowly walked down stairs to be met with my angry parents. "You're lucky little one. One day, though, you will be sorry for abandoning us." My father said before walking by me.
