In this standout chapter of the Internet novel Alpha Mate Series, Morgan Nave introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

Lucas POV:

For the past couple of weeks, mom and Layla have been training Charlie to fight. She's been learning very quickly and even took Layla down after a few lessons.

I walked out onto the training field to see Charlie's progress. She and another she wolf were sparring. She looked peaceful as she engaged in combat.

She turned and smiled when she saw me. "Hey." She said and hugged me.

I still haven't marked her yet. I need her to be completely comfortable with the pack before I even bring it up to her.

"Hey, gorgeous." I said and kissed her cheek. "I'm going to try to shift today." Charlie told me causing a huge smile to come across my face.

She has gone so long without shifting that it will be hard and painful but I'm so glad she's trying to get in touch with her wolf.

Charlie POV:

I was adjusting to my new pack easily. Most of them are friendly and supportive but I do get jealous glares from she wolves once in a while.

My wolf is stalking more and more each day. She's excited to finally get to stretch her legs again.

My self confidence has improved since joining the pack and I've gotten so much stronger.

"Ready to shift, pretty girl?" Sandy, Lucas's cousin asked. I met Sandy and her mate, Dorian not long after I moved here and they quickly became close friends of mine.

"As I'll ever be, I guess." I replied.

I closed my eyes, connecting to my wolf, encouraging her to shift.

My teeth clenched when I felt and heard my bones shifting. God it was painful.

Finally I felt all four paws touch the soft grass.

"You did it!" Sandy cheered then shifted.

"Shift." Lucas commanded, bringing our clothes to us.

By the end of the day, I could barely walk because I was so sore and exhausted.

As soon as Lucas and I reached out bedroom, I collapsed face first on the bed.

Lucas POV:

I laughed, seeing Charlie throw her left on the bed dramatically. "You did great today, Charlie." I told her, crawling into the bed next to her.

"I'm so tired." She mumbled into her pillow. "I'd say so. We'll take a day off the training tomorrow. I know we haven't spent a lot of time together the last few days, so I thought we could grab a bite tomorrow." I told her.

She looked at me with a bright but tired smile. "That sounds great." She said, resting her head on my chest.

"I love you, baby." I said. "I love you, too." She whispered before falling asleep.
