"Nope." William replies.
They walk down Michael's grand staircase and into the living room where William waits to receive her while Michael walks furthermore into his office to wait for both of them.
Veronica is ushered in by one of the security guards at the entrance where she is greeted by a smiling William and for once she smiles back at him. She hadn't known she was going to arrive at such a monumental abode and most of all, she didn't expect that the man she would be meeting with was one of New York's most successful businessmen-Michael Grahamsteen. Veronica had heard so many stories about him- how he was presumptuous and high handed, hopefully those were all tales. She would have put more effort into her dressing but she didn't care. She was here for business and nothing else, it wasn't her concern how she was perceived and most of all the fanciful house and cars she had seen meant nothing to her. All she wanted was an opportunity to save her sister's life.
"How are you feeling?" William asks as they make their way towards Michael's office.
"Surprisingly calm." She lies comfortably. The truth is that she is really dying of uneasiness right now and her behind is sweating the river Jordan like it does every time she feels nervous. Get a grip of yourself , Veronica. You're not even sure that you're going to do this. She thinks to herself as William opens the door for her to get in.
Michael's gaze falls on Veronica as she walks into the office for what becomes a lot of time. He stares at her steadily and impassively until William's voice drags him to reality.
"Michael, this is Veronica Goddard " he gestures to Veronica, who also steadily fixes her gaze on Michael such that William begins to feel a wave of uneasiness but he remains determined to finish his introduction.
He raises his brow at both of them and then continues.
"Veronica. This is Michael Grahamsteen." He says but neither Veronica nor Michael utters a word or moves an inch.
"Okay, I will let you two discuss your business then." He turns to leave.
"Goodbye William." Michael says finally to a now scowling William who gladly departs the office.
Michael returns his gaze to Veronica.
"Please have a seat, Miss Goddard." He says to Veronica who draws out a chair and thankfully sits her behind down.
"I assume you know why we are having this meeting?" He begins.
She nods in agreement and he continues.
"I'm afraid so. I'm sorry for the confu-" his speech is interjected by Veronica.
"No, Mr. Grahamsteen. It is I who am sorry for this confusion because this isn't happening." She forces a smile and stands up to leave but Michael walks after her.
"Veronica!" He calls out and she slowly turns around.
"At least, tell me that you will consider it."
She looks at him with disbelief. "There will be no considering of any kind Mr. Grahamsteen, there's no way in hell I am giving up my child to you." She begins.
"And that's Miss Goddard to you, not Veronica." She says before turning around and disappearing from his view.
God, she was so feisty that it made his blood boil in enthrallment and drew him into a haze of fascination with the way in which she moved, enunciated her words and boldly held his gaze. She truly was no-nonsense like William had said. She didn't care who he was or where she was, she gave him a piece of her mind still and that made him all the more smitten by her. He wanted to see her again, he had to see her again.
