Jack stood lofty. "That's a good story, Morris. The kid comes home then." And without another word and with one last contemptuous glance at Angela, Jack Marshall walked away. The tapping of his heel felt like pounding within Angela.
She hadn't control of the tears that began their race down her cheeks. At least she managed to hold them back while her father was there. She hated crying in front of him. She would feel weak.
But at the moment, she couldn't even try to hide the utter weakness she felt. Oh, dear. Oh, Daniel. Damned Steven.
Like a mad boxer taking out his anger at a punching bag, Angela's fists banged at Steven's chest repeatedly with all her might. Steven didn't try to stop her once. He just kept still. "How could you? How could you bring him here? I told you not to tell him."
Steven wore his ruthless face. "You left me no choice. You've said I couldn't get what I wanted. Guess I just did."
Angela gave him one final hard punch. "Couldn't you for just one time be a loser?"
The water flooding her eyes made her blind. All she saw was a blur. All she could think about was that he was going to take Daniel away next. Steven was taking her baby. The thought alone made her legs weak. Her knees buckled, dropping her body on the cold flooring while she sobbed breathlessly.
Steven looked away from her. He couldn't look at her frail state for another second. He had to remain strong before her. "I hate losing. You know that, Angela." He made to leave.
"Wait." Angela pushed herself from the ground, sniffled her cries back and hurried to interrupt his dodge by stopping a feet before him. Her fingers reached at him, curled tight in the fabric of his expensive shirt. "Promise me you won't tell Daniel who you are. Promise me." She begged while pulling at his shirt. "Do it for him."
"I promise I won't tell him." Steven's fingers wrapped around her wrists and tugged her reluctant hands free from his shirt. "Yet."
And he left. Leaving Angela alone with her fresh tears and her heightened fears.
The following day, Daniel was granted the release by his doctor. For the first time, Angela wished that Daniel would have been kept at the hospital for longer. That day, her son was going to be taken to Steven's condo with her. He would be trapped there with her.
Grace and Jimmy didn't want to let Daniel go. But they held back from making a big fuss in front of Daniel, for his sake. They couldn't let him think that it was the last they might see other, that Steven would take him away forever. They did however show the hatred towards Steven with their deep-etched frowns.
"You do have other properties. You could prison us somewhere else instead of here." Of course he had other properties. He was a construction mogul. He was rich. He could have any property he want.
"But I prefer this one." He really did like it. It was close to his office building and it was one of the best properties he built. Plus now the two bedroom limit meant that Angela only had two options where to sleep, either on the sofa or share his bed.
Steven crouched before Daniel. "I got you a whole new wardrobe of clothes and a hundred new toys. Go check out your room."
With full-on excitement, Daniel didn't need to be told twice and he ran to his new room.
"I want to take Daniel to work with me." Steven announced to Angela. His words weren't a question for permission from her.
Angela knew that. She had anticipated that he wouldn't be asking her permission to be with her son. His son. "Okay. But only if I come with you."
