At that easy admission from Steven, Angela's breath caught in her throat. Was he acting again or was that the truth he spoke? Oh, dear. How did they get to this point? Their farce was becoming a complete mess.

"What are we doing, Steve?" Angela muttered in her lowest voice.

"I... I'm not sure." Steven confessed. "What do you want it to be, Angie?"

"I don't know."

"Do you want me in your life again? Do you want me in Daniel's life?" His warm hand went to her cheek. "Do you want me?"

Oh, dear. He was speaking the truth, wasn't he? She knew he was. His grey eyes pierced with hers. And she knew he wanted the truth from her too.

Angela's eyes shut. She nuzzled her cheek in his hand. Bit her lip. Shook her head. "I don't know."

"Angela."

The soft whisper of her name caused her to open her eyes and to find Steven's face close to hers. His breath was mixing with her own. Their nose were nearly touching.

If the crowd hadn't suddenly began mumbling louder than they were, Angela and Steven would have kissed. If the frenzied crowd hadn't all stood up and alerted them too, they would have stayed lost in their own world.

Like the rest of the adults at the bleachers, Angela and Steven got off their seats to watch everyone on the pitch gathering in one spot. They couldn't understand what was going on until eyes began turning at them and they heard the whispering of their son's name. Daniel.

Without missing a beat, Angela pushed her way from the benches and down to the pitch with Steven in her shadow. They ran with as much speed as their feet could sprint. From the bleachers, the pitch didn't look that far but at that moment, it seemed like a hundred miles long.

Upon reaching the gathering of young boys and their coaches, Angela jostled her way through. Her heart skipped when she found Daniel laying on the ground. He was as white as a ghost. His breathing was laboured. His eyes were barely open.

When Daniel saw Angela and Steven crouching beside him, he managed a small smile directed at Steven. "You... Came."

Angela helped the boy sit up, soothed him with a hand on his back.

"Donahue's," came the friendly voice of Dr. Gibbs.

All four adults stood to their feet. All four eager to hear the doctor's voice speak again.

"Daniel's breathing just stabilized. He's still being monitored as we speak. You can visit him soon."

"But..." Angela knew there was more.

"I'd like to speak with you in my office before you visit Daniel." Dr. Gibbs spoke without hinting at a good news or a bad news.

Angela only nodded. Somehow she sense it was a bad news. Something was not right. Oh, Daniel. She had to know what was going on.

Before another infinite second passed, Angela stepped to the doctor. Steven hadn't let go of her hand and stepped with her.
