I couldn't sleep. No matter how I tried. Not even after all the bottles of beer I consumed. I was physically drained. My body wanted to sleep so bad, but my mind was working over drive.
Groaning in frustration, I kicked the blanket off of me. The rain had began to fall. I hated the rain. The subtle ones made me feel lonely, raging ones, with thunder and lightning terrifies me.
It's like the world is out to get me. Just when I began to think of thunderstorms, a resounding thunder struck.
Usually, Angel stays with me through nights like this, talking about random things as we cuddle till I fall asleep. But even I know that would not happen tonight. I guess that means no sleep for me. Great just great. I'm intoxicated, restless and frustrated, let's not forget frightened. Tomorrow's hangover is gonna hurt like a bitch.
I went to the bathroom to take a shower, Hoping that would calm my nerves.
--------------
Half way through sleep, I'm startled awake by a crashing sound. Thinking it's a bugler, I get up and try to locate the source of the noise.
I heard more scrambling and cautiously progressed into the kitchen only to hear someone mutter "stupid kitchen island" in the dark
Switching on the light, I found Angel on the floor, with a hair that looks like a huge bird resided there not too long ago. Knee bent in an awkward angle, as she munches on some chips.
I find the fridge opened with most of its content spilled out.
With mouth filled with food, cheeks looking like a chipmunk consuming nuts, she looks up at me like a dear cut in head light,
"It's not what you think?!" She tried to say properly with her mouth full.
"True, it's way amusing than what I thought." I said to her looking at her all ridiculous.
"I was here thinking we had a burglar issue, but turns out it's a food thief. A clumsy, chipmunk like food thief, that decided to eat all it's nuts on my kitchen floor in the dark and mess my kitchen up."
"Hey, don't judge, I was stressed, and hungry and I just thought I'll try my ninja skills in the kitchen, so I didn't turn the lights on." She defended.
"And what good did that do you?" I inquired.
"Hmm, none actually, I think I twisted my ankle. I can't get up."she answered sheepishly. Blinking rapidly. This was ridiculous. But I couldn't help but think she's cute.
"So you decided to eat this, on the floor of a dark kitchen?"
I asked pointing to the chips in her hand.
"Yes! Brilliant right?!" She asked right back.
"Stupid" I murmur.
"Hey, I heard that!"
"Well, I hope the snack was worth all the trouble" I said ignoring her protest.
"Humm, if you would have stopped talking, maybe I would have tasted all the flavors and then be satisfied. Now, I finished the whole thing while answering your question and I didn't even feel it's taste on my taste buds properly!!" she whined. Has she picked the crumb that fell to the floor beside her
"Don't put that-" I began to say.
She quickly threw it into her mouth.
"I won't share with you. I am still mad at you." She told me.
"Do you see that man over there?" She asked the empty chips wrapper
"Yes, I know he's handsome, don't be fooled by the looks!! He is a big bully and meanie." She continued to speak to the inanimate object with all seriousness.
"Angel...?"
"No, you wanted to eat little crumby! I didn't give you cause you did not say please." She said.
"Actually, I was Gonna tell you that rats must have pead on the floor and you probably just took all that into your mouth."I told her.
Instead of the shrieking I was expecting, I got the opposite
She just licked her lips, savouring the after taste of whatever she just ate.
"Hmm, if it's truly rat pea, we gotta find that rat and ask it what it had for dinner, cause whatever that is, it made this chips taste ten times better!!" She declared.
Now that got to me. This is not normal.
Looking at her closely, I notice her knee was actually bleeding and she was looking so out of it.
"Your knee is bleeding." I informed her.
"Okay" came the reply, from someone who would freak at the mention of blood .
"How come you hurt yourself this bad?" I asked. Worried.
"Ask the stupid counter! " she said, becoming furious all of a sudden
"Angel?" I asked getting worried.
"I ran into here full speed , I swear this monster wasn't there before. It just appeared at the last minute. I tried to take it down but I guess I underestimated it." She said glaring daggers at the kitchen island.
"Foolish, you over estimated yourself is the case" I said under my breath
"You're drunk aren't you?" I asked the question with the most obvious answer
"No!" She declared
"Yes, you are. Let's get you out of this war zone you created and into a nice sanctuary hmm? I said carrying her in my arms.
"Yay, my hero! We could be ninjas together." She commented
"Not happening kiddo."
"Hey, I'm an independent woman!"
"Yeah, you seem to be displaying your high level of maturity and independence today." I breathed out.
Getting to my room I try to place her on my bed but she just held my neck tighter.
"Angel let go. I need to clean your wound"
"What if the kitchen monster comes back?" She whispered
"W-what do y-you think your doing?!" She asked perplexed.
Moving close, I whispered into her ears.
"Just one out of the numbers of things I wish to do to you, with you..."I said in a low tone, nibbling her ear in the process.
With ragged breaths she asked Curiously,
"One of the numerous things?" "What are those things?" Looking at me with those big blue eyes that make me forget how to form coherent words.
"I would rather show you, if you'll let me." I told her.
At this point, there was no denying what I feel, or how there seems to be a force pulling me closer to her, to my doom. My head screams Don't, but my heart kept telling me to proceed. The air was charged, and Angel wasn't making it any easier with the way she was holding me, looking at me, taking ragged breaths, and breathing me in. I couldn't stop, I didn't want to.
Leaning so close to the point where any slight movement would cause our lips to meet in a kiss, she finally responded.
"Show me"
I hesitated a little, something I'll forever live to regret. I thought of the 'what if's' and what is 'morally right', and the 'what happens next', by the time I made up my mind to dive right in and throw caution to the wind, I leaned in for a kiss, just as I was about to nail home, my phone began to ring loudly. Just like that the spell broke not because the phone rang, hell no, that would have changed nothing if it wasn't for the person who was calling. It was my mum. I had set a separate ring tone for her. Hearing that tone from my phone made me feel like I had been caught by my mother. It reminded me of just how file my thoughts are. But the bulge in my pants and rapid beat of my heart said otherwise. I heard Angel groan in frustration.
"Don't pick that. Must you pick that?"
Sighing, I press the receive button.
"Mum?"
"Its, your sister Emily" came the shaky voice.
"Emily? What's wrong, why are you calling with mum's phone?" I asked worried.
"I- its mother"
"What's wrong with mum?" I asked losing patience.
"She is in a bad shape Jack...
She fainted and was rushed to the hospital. Its been an hour and she hasn't woken up."
I lost grip on the phone watching it fall to the ground.
I couldn't breath.
"What's wrong?" I heard Angel ask. Her voice sounding distant.
I couldn't move.
Turns out this night is cursed after all...
A lips that hardly prays sent a silent prayer to the heavens
"God please save my mum"
