"She died two years after you left. Everyone thinks its because of you leaving. I know it was because she couldn't take losing everyone, not just you."
"I'm sorry Anna."
He said looking really upset.
"She's in a better place now. I'm just glad that you made it out the marines and came back here."
"Me too. And this time I'm not leaving Anna. I promise."
"Me too. And this time I'm not leaving Anna. I promise."
I let Kevin's words bounce around in my head. I believed him only because he was blood and I knew him my entire life. I understood that he would never leave me without good reason. Our parents' deaths took a toll on both of us. We both believed we played a part in our parents' untimely death. But neither of us realized that we were just kids. We couldn't have done anything even if we tried. We wouldn't have been able to stop fate. Our parents died for a reason. It's just unfortunate that it took us so long to realize it.
Kevin just stared at me with hope behind his tear filled eyes. I couldn't say no to my brother. I would always forgive my blood. And since he's the only family I have left, I might as well just put all this behind us. I reached across the table and grabbed Kevin's hand. I gave it a reassuring squeeze while I looked him in the eyes and smiled.
"We have a lot of catching up don't you think?" I said to him.
"Yes." He said before getting up and reaching out to help me out the chair.
"Wait. Do you have anywhere to stay?" I asked.
"Umm...right now im at the local motel. I haven't had any time to look for a permanent place. I wanted to find you first."
"I have an extra room. You can stay with me. I honestly don't mind."
"I gotta meet up with someone. Why Wassup?" I asked. Jim only cared about my life when he had something up his sleeve. I wasn't really in the mood for his tricks today so I hoped it wasn't something stupid.
"Please tell me it's not to see Arianna again! She's pregnant by a different man! What the hell are you going to do with that!?" Jim asked coming into my room with an annoyed look on his face.
"The man cheated and left you dumbass. I'm going to do what I should have done from the very beginning. Arianna wasn't just some cheap ass slut I found on the street got drunk with and married. I felt something when I first met her. She intrigued me. Her and her attitude. I wasn't drunk until after we started talking. We decided to get married because we both had too many. But I knew what the hell I was doing regardless." I said, refusing to turn around and give Jim any type of satisfaction with this argument.
"If you felt like she was the one, why the hell did you let her go?" He asked. I felt the words go straight through my heart. I've been asking that question myself these past few months.
"Because you can't force someone to stay married to you if they don't want to. If I would have said no, she would have taken me to court for everything I had. She would have broken my heart just so she could leave, not giving a damn about my feelings."
"Well maybe that's what you need. You're starting to act like a punk, running around, chasing that one girl who got away. Nic she doesn't want you. Maybe you need to let her the hell go and move on."
