"You will grow and bloom into a beautiful were my dear, don't doubt that," he said, his hands suddenly resting on my shoulders. I stood, setting the pasta on the counter.
"Grandpa, I don't think I'll be picked as Luna, it's just that, I'm weaker than the other females, and well look at me, I'm too thin." I whispered.
He's break your in half on your honeymoon," I thought to myself.
"Listen very closely to me Mindy, you may look like this now but you will flourish, I promise you that," he stated. In his eyes there was no doubt, I could practically feel the confidence radiating from him.
All I could do was laugh and ignore his word. I'd let time prove me wrong.
"How about I start dinner, why don't you get some rest over at your couch, go on and pop your feet up grandpa," I said.
Turning my attention to cooking, I gathered all I needed to prepare a good spaghetti dinner for the both of us. Grandma had passed before I had the opportunity to even meet her, but she sure had left one hell of a sauce recipe for me. I am certain had I had the opportunity to have her in my life I would have been just a bit more courageous. I stirred the sauce, added a bit of garlic, cut tomatoes and just a tad of onion into the already bubbling pot. Rinsing the pasta I set it inside the sink to drain while I dropped a few meat balls into the sauce.
"Dinner is almost set!" I called from the kitchen.
"Why don't you set the entire table I think we have some company coming," he called out.
I did not bother to ask simply hassled to prepare the table. Our kitchen was nice and spacious, perfectly spherical dining area right next to the kitchen. I had decorated and arranged most of the things myself. Adding nice portraits on the wall of overweight chefs to bring a little decor into the dining area. Wiping the table clean I arranged the cushions on all six chairs and set a plate for each one. Panic struck the moment the door echoed with knocks. I washed my hands over and over, eager to get rid of the smell of garlic and onions on my skin.
Setting the glasses on the table I smiled to realize that the Alpha family had stopped by. They often did seeing that Alpha Cain was very close to grandpa. Long ago he had asked that he be his Beta, his right hand man, but being such a humble person grandpa refused the position leaving it to a much younger and fiercer fighter.
"I thought I smelled you in here," Jeremiah greeted. I grinned like an idiot as he made his way over to the stove. "Your grandma's old recipe?" he asked.
"You remembered," I replied, taking the large bowl of spaghetti over to the table.
"So you think I don't pay attention when you say things?" he questioned, leaning against the sink.
Various footsteps neared the dining room and in stepped the Alpha and his Luna. My head lowered in respect, feeling every muscle in my body tense the moment they acknowledged me.
Gunner shot me a glare, angry that I had spoken back to the Alpha trying to plead my case. I on the other hand wanted to smack his perfectly combed bleach blonde head.
"You will do well to hold your tongue when the Alpha speaks to you," he shot out, his voice never elevating, but radiating anger I could not describe. It was harsh, firm, and unnatural.
"Gunner, it's alright, she simply forgot, it's common for Lycan's to forget, we aren't built perfect," his father said, patting Gunner's shoulder. The Luna rose from her seat and smiled kindly at me, taking the glass from his hands.
He pets him like a dog. I thought.
"I'll serve him the water honey, take your seat," she said.
I was glad but also offended that I was practically being told, "He doesn't want you touching his glass much less serving his water".
I took my seat again serving myself a small portion of pasta and sauce. I ate quietly, feeling my happy mood vanish every moment I happen to look up and find Gunner glaring at me.
