I pulled her into my chest and she held onto me like her life depended on it. She felt softer, more fragile; like the day I first met her.
I guess I know now why I was sensing that in her scent when I woke up in the hospital. I only wish I knew then...
"How many did you get?"
"Twenty-four." I dumped down the seashells in a heap. "How about you?"
He scratched the back of his head. "Five."
"You're pathetic." I laughed.
"You know this beach better than me. You used to live here."
"Excuses excuses." I clicked my tongue.
"I got more fishes than you still." He bragged.
"Cause you're supposed to be all predator like," I said matter-of-factly. "Werewolf."
"That proves nothing." He said stubbornly. "I'm just better than you. And you can't say I have an unfair advantage cause you're not even human anymore."
"I never caught a fish in my life so this was unfair to begin with!"
"Excuses, excuses." He shook his head. "No wonder you kept insisting we catch oysters instead. Practically anything with a shell is drawn to you."
"You're just jealous cause they like me better."
"And I don't mind actually. I caught nine fishes and you caught one. Can you eat those seashells?" He smirked.
I kick sand on the fishes over the fire. "If I can't eat, then you can't either."
"Jokes on you," he smiled sweetly. "cause I'm still gonna eat it anyway."
As he attended to his dirt fishes over the fire, I quickly snatch the ones he already cooked. "For Sparta!" I yelled like a lunatic as I ran off. It wasn't long before I heard his heavy footsteps behind me and he tackled me to the ground. The fishes flew from my hand and rolled everywhere in the sand. "Noooo!" I yelled in despair as Sage laughed his ass off. "Those were the biggest ones!"
"It's just sand. Just brush it off."
"No, they're tainted now," I grumbled. "They were so beautiful."
"You can have some of mine,"
"Ew, I kicked sand on those remember."
"How could I forget?" He smirked. "It happened it the midst of your jealousy."
"I was just so hungry!" I cried.
"If you makes you feel any better, I haven't cooked yours yet."
"Too late. Tried to cook it myself when you went to get more fishes. Burnt it pathetically."
"I didn't see it when I got back."
"Cause I took care of it."
"What did you do with it?"
Without a word a threw him off my back and ran to the best of my abilities. He caught me again, of course, but this time when he tackled me he only caught one of my legs.
"Nooooooo!" I yelled as dragged me back, my nails digging into the sand as I tried to claw away.
"You thought you could escape me!" He laughed sinisterly. "MEET YOUR MAKER!"
"LET ME GO!"
"WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FISH!"
"I'LL NEVER TELL YOU!"
"TELL ME!"
"NEVER!"
He pulled me between his legs and sat on my back, again.
"Get off of me!"
"Then tell me!"
"No!"
"Sure," I smirked.
And then I let him have it.
"Agh!" Sage threw me off, cringing. "Why did it feel warm? That's not right!"
I laughed. "It was heated by my vengeance."
He shoved my shoulder. "You're so gross."
"You farted on me first."
"But mine wasn't warm!"
"I told you it was my vengeance!"
"Well here's mine!" He pinned me to the ground. "Penis! Penis! Penis!"
My eyes narrowed into silts. "You've just made the biggest mistake of your life."
"Penis." His breath fanned my face.
As subtly as I could my fingers reached up and grabbed his nipples.
"Why don't you say it again?" I smirked. "Go ahead. I dare you."
"Okay." He said weakly.
"What?" I smiled. "I didn't quite catch that."
"You win!" He cried. "You win!"
I release him. "That's what I thought."
"That's savagery." He frowned. "You don't see me grabbing your nipples."
"Because I keep mine heavily guarded."
He smiled at me, but this one was different, more softer. I was still getting used to his eyes being red but there was something about them that drew me nearer.
