"As long as there is fire, there is life."

I offered him my hand and he nodded in understanding. His claws extended and slid one of them across my palm, splitting the skin. Crimson ooze out and I held it over the basin and drizzle my blood onto the colds. Charlie did the same after me and we both watch as the fire finally burnt out.

The door burst open and five Raiders emerged. Their weapons were aimed at us and I no doubt was waiting to be released.

"I thought you said this would work?" Charlie whispered viciously.

"It was supposed to! I don't know what happened."

"Maybe we were too late?"

At Charlie's words, I felt my back get singed by the roaring fire behind us. We turned around to see the fire shoot up into the sky through a pillar of light.

I heard weapons being thrown down and I turned around to see the Raiders kneeling down before us.

Charlie leaned over to me. "What are they doing?"

"I don't know." My brows furrowed.

"I can't guarantee you anything today!" I say honestly. "All I can give you is my strength and will to not give up! Once we cross over, the battle begins just as quick! Make no mistake that it won't be an easy one! It'll be an entire kingdom versus us! The odds may not be in our favor but I pray this battle will be a victorious one and that the Moon Goddess watches over all of us! I pray for our safe return and that you receive vengeance your soul desires!"

"YEAH!" The crowd cheered.

"We are the Dusk Mist Pack!" Sage bellowed. "And will give them nothing less! We are not average wolves! We are the direct descendants of Tylon's warriors! We share the same strengths! We share the same weakness! But they don't know what it means to be a part of this pack! They don't have out heart! They don't have our pride!

Today, we fight for our Luna! We fight for our fallen! We fight for one another! We fight, to keep this family together! Because Dusk Mist isn't about to get tarnish by some washed up clan! We will defend our home here and over there! We will take back the throne for our Luna, my mate, and our Queen!

Long may she reign!"

"LONG MAY SHE REIGN!" The crowd roared. My heart swelled as I took in their faces. They looked so happy, so proud and willing, and extremely vibrant. It took me now to realized it but I loved them all. Every single one of them.

I thought they were foolish to believe in someone like me. I didn't understand their immediate dedication. I thought, why would they trust a naive eighteen-year-old girl with their future? With their life?

It wasn't because I was a parentless girl without anyone to turn to. I believe it was their welcoming nature and kind hearts that saw past my faults.

It was probably why Sage was so nice to me since we met. He grew up here, it's in his nature. I expected the world to be a selfish place so I didn't want his help at first. But he was persistent, and I didn't need to look far to know where he gets it from.

"You've been Queen for five minutes and you suddenly think you're strong and independent."

"Listen," I said matter-of-faculty. "You should be glad this is my mindset. I could be chickening out right now."

"True, but the day is still young."

I slapped him across the chest. "Do you actually want me to be nervous?"

"Relax," he rolled his eyes. "I was just trying to distract you from you know who.."

"Oh.."

"Hey, if we end up living through this, I'd like to hang out with you sometimes."

"Why did you have to say it under those circumstances?" I laughed.

"Because" he pinched my cheek again and it hurt, unlike the first time. "I was trying to get you to laugh, and I've succeeded."
