"I just can't shake this bad feeling..."

"Then think about me," he whispered. "standing at the end of the aisle, eagerly waiting to make you my wife when all of this is over. My mother and Nicole will probably put you in a dress that is too tight and too extravagant, and heels that are too high, but you won't complain because you know you'll never win with them. You'll be smiling nervously at me while I'll be trying to hold back my tears at seeing my beautiful wife. "

Tears stung my eyes, and the more I tried to blink them away, the more my vision became blurry.

"I'll probably mess up on my vows the longer I stare into your eyes and I'll probably be a nervous wreck the entire time. But I know leaving with you by my side will be the best feeling in my life. Calling you Mrs. Fischer will make me the happiest man alive."

"I'm probably the luckiest girl alive," I said softly. "to have someone like you. I didn't know what I was going to do after high school. My dad wanted me to go to school and get married and have a life, but honestly, I couldn't see any of those things for me. Aside from my dad, I had always been alone for as long as I could remember. I could never seem to have any lasting friendships no matter how hard I tried. When dad got sick, I began to feel more and more alone. Eventually, I started getting homeschooled and I never left the house unless I had to go to the store. It was a bit dramatic on my part, but I couldn't afford to leave him alone. He never liked that I was spending so much time by myself. He fought against it until the very end but I couldn't seem to break the habit. I always did things on my own, I never had to depend on anybody for anything.

But then I met you.

And you make it impossible to ever do anything by myself. But I'm glad for it. Because always being by yourself doesn't guarantee you anything but loneliness. I never used to mind it until I met you. And you make me never want to be lonely again."

"You won't. I promise you that. I'll come back."

I sat up in the bed and he didn't hold me back this time. If there was a switch to shut off this war, I'd be glad to flip it. So many times I had hoped to wake up and find this all to be one big dream, but reality sure loves smiling me in the face. I guess now would be the time to meet fate head on since it allotted me everyone's savior.

That is what I have to be.

A savior.

I have to save them.

I have to save my family.

I have to save Sage.

I craned my head over my shoulder, catching a glimpse of him staring down at his enclosed fingers. "We'll both come back."

I began dragging Charlie's body to center of the altar, ignoring his moans and groans. I didn't have much time left before they would find us so this was my last chance.

The fire was going out, lunging my heart it into a panic. My body was weakened from the fight so I couldn't go any faster than what my strength is. Charlie's added body weight made my movements hurt more than they would if I wasn't carrying him.

He cradled his head in his hands and hissed in pain. "What about Angela?"

"You've got to be kidding me..." I muttered under my breath. "Forget it," I then say, "Angela is fine, but we won't be if we don't make it to the fire in time."

I pulled his arms around my shoulder and helped him up. We made for the center of the altar again, the footsteps I heard before sounding closer than ever.

"We have to hurry!"

He grunted. "I'm trying!"

As we went up the small steps I heard a bang on the door. My barricade wasn't going to last forever and judging by the number of footsteps I've heard, it won't.

When we finally made it to the center, the fire was reduced to three red colds close to burning out.

"It's gone," Charlie swallowed. "What now?"
