"To werewolves, it never is."
Sage POV
"You know, we can back out if you want," I said to her. I was trying to be a gentleman at the moment, but it seemed like she's not looking for any pampering due to recent events. The entire pack was here and all the mated females took their place at the start line. Everyone else just observed and rooted for their teams.
"Hell no! They started this!" was her reply. "If they wanna talk smack let 'em! Cause my ass is what they're gonna see at the hilltop!"
"Damn, I never knew you were so competitive. It's kinda hot." I smirked.
"Well, just make sure your scrawny legs are fast enough to beat these losers!"
"Hey!"
"Yeah!" everyone said in a union.
"My legs are not scrawny!" I freight offense.
"And we," Nichole said pointing to her and Scott. "are the ones that are going to win."
"Excuse me?" Stella spoke. "I believe Adam and I are the one that's going to be winning."
"Woah, getting ahead of yourself Stella?" Jess smirked. "Devin and I are about to kick all your asses." she motioned to them.
"Is that so?"
During their little feud, I manage to slip away from the girls and join the guys on the sidelines watching this little episode.
"I'm so glad I chose to be the referee!" Ethan laughed.
"Should we stop them?" Devin said worriedly, as he watched his girlfriend tackle Stella to the ground signaling everyone else to get physical.
"Nah, I don't think we'll ever get this opportunity again." Adam shrugged.
"Considering that this is just Capture The Flag, I think we might," I said to him, but he just fanned it off.
"I don't think they'll deliberately hurt each other."
"Still, you know how Stell is about her nails, if one even scratched, she's about to murder someone!" Scott laughed.
"Yeah but-"
"My nail!"
"And that's my cue." Adam rose from his seat and we all shot him respected looks.
"You're a brave man, Adam. I'll make sure your funeral is one to remember." Mike said and he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, well don't forget to tell the grandkids too."
And that was the last thing he said before he departed for that suicide mission.
"Sorry, buddy," Devin said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I guess you waited too long to be with her."
"No it's something else, it's gotta be!"
"Sorry Ethan, but that ship has found a captain." Scott laughed and Ethan gave him the evil eye. "Sorry."
"I still don't believe it. It just doesn't seem right."
"C'mon you're almost there," I grunted. Was she always this heavy?
"Why is it so dark in here?" she slurred. "Are we playing hide and seek?" her giggles filled the room.
"More like trying to find the light."
I rested her against the door and practically molested the wall for the light switch. The entire time she kept talking nonsense and I just agreed. It's not like any of it was relevant so I didn't really care. Eventually I found the thing and flicked it upwards.
Immediately when that action took place, I heard a loud thump behind me and I whipped around to see Hanna asleep on the floor.
"Shit!" I rushed to her and picked her up in my arms. "That's the last time I make you have too many drinks."
The game of capture the flag was won by, believe it or not, Mike and Katelynn. I still don't know how but Ethan's idea to go get Katelynn actually worked. If only he could follow his own advice.
Later Hanna and I went around meeting the entire pack and after went to the barn fire and listen to my dad tell stories. When the party was in full swing, that's when she started on her first bottle, and it went downhill from there. It wasn't that bad because I kind of seemed to like drunken Hanna better. She was carefree and happy and smiley all the time. I have to find a way to bring drunken Hanna out when she's not drunk. I think it will make things better for her.
