In this standout chapter of the Internet novel New Wolf, Shea introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

I'd never seen my father like this before. He was dark, somber, so stoic. All my life he'd been nothing but a light-hearted, guitar playing bartender, and now he's, this.

"This," he said lifting his arm, as the blood trickled down from its slash. The sleeve around it was ripped in half and seem to be collecting blood as it traveled downward. "or rather what's in it," I didn't even flinch at the sight of it, nothing surprises me anymore. "is probably the worst way to die. It's called Lytral, mostly used for torture where I'm from and is as incurable as cancer-That's the coverup I'm going with, by the way, it seems plausible since they react similarly. And as deadly as this thing sounds, there are far worst things Tylon has to offer. First of all, Vampires, Werewolves and any mystical being you can possibly think of, are more real than story books led on. We expose ourselves to a certain extent, but enough to not become traceable. And while humans are led to believe it was all imaginary, there were still some that knew better, the ones that realize those stories gave them more than people realize. They were the ones that aided us when we came to this world. To the Raiders, they were just ignorant-weaklings who could easily be manipulated for a price, which I found true in some cases. If you are going to enter Tylon, you must know the environment itself. Before such a place even existed, beings were divided into multiple quadrants and ruled amongst themselves. It wasn't until your mother's grandfather stepped into the picture that everyone was joined together, and for a while, happy too. But harmony could only last for so long when there's that one ass that screws it up for everyone. It all started when a vampire was mated to a werewolf. The rules back then weren't as logical as they are now, so it was bizarre to be fated in such away, people were against intermingling. The issue became heated when both sides were led to believe one had the other bewitched, and thus the allies begin to form. Tylon was divided and broken, but the war was yet to be initiated. It led up to the moment one hunter accidentally shot and young wolf, and it blazed on ever since. No one was obeying the law and soon, the Vampire/Wolf brawl transitioned into something far worst. It was killed or be killed, and let's just say the Hunters were on the shortest side of the stick. Our clan that we fought so hard to protect was slaughtered. No one cared whether you were young or old, the weak wasn't allowed to live. I guess you can say that's how the Raiders were formed." he chuckled. "I was less civil back then and it wouldn't take much to set me off, but I wasn't that far gone that I went around reeking havoc. I had enough sense to plan out everything in a timely and orderly manner. As their leader, I was expected to be ready for anything, but when your mother became my target, everything shifted. The plan was simple, get her to undo the spell that barred us from Tylon, then kill her. What I didn't know was that she already saw me coming, and she had other plans. I got to see inside the kingdom, or what's left of it anyway. She taught me different, she let me see past the rage and sadness that wrongly steered my actions and I found myself, hating that I wanted to contaminate the last bit of hope in our world. I couldn't let Tylon be destroyed so I never returned to my men. You came into the picture later on so I think you can connect the dots from there. Your memory, whether you're aware or not, holds all Tylon holds dear. When you got that insignia, everything was locked away in your head and your mother made sure no one saw it or recognized it, or we'll all screwed." he paused. "Don't be too hard on her, okay?" he smiled sadly. "It was mandatory that she stayed away from you but you need you know she never left you. She'd always been there, you just can't remember."

He coughed, rather harshly too and I could see the droplets of blood staining the sleeve of his shirt and his mouth corner. I almost reached out to wipe it away but reminded myself it was only a recording. In that moment it was like watching him die all over again.

And it hurt me.

"You need to unlock it, okay? It's what's inside your mind the Raiders want but not even they know what they're looking for. It's up to you to trigger it somehow cause I don't know how to help you. I'm sorry everything's like this, I can just imagine how overwhelmed you must be. But if there's one thing I could ever tell you it's don't think about the things you can't do and should have done because of fear and failure. When you do away with all negativism, you'll realize you have more resilience than you know. Fear is only present in the mind of a fearful person and failure is pressed upon those who promoted slackness. Success is an option, but it's up to the beholder to see clearly, to put everything aside and lead, because nothing happens overnight. Life and death wager a thin line and they settle without your consent. Be all that you can be and more; but please, more than anything, preserve your humanity."
