"Sage it's been what? A few hours? I'm fine." I rolled my eyes.

"What are you talking about?" he furrowed his brow. "You've been gone for almost eight days!"

"What?" I could only say.

"You left last week and no one heard from you since. We couldn't even track you or catch your scent and it was almost like...you were dead."

I stared at him stiffly. He's the other one that looked a mess? What's with boys under distress nowadays? I don't like the fact that he gets like this when I don't turn up. It's like he needs me more than I need him. "Where's my mother?" I said.

Instantly his demeanor changed. "Hanna, there's something you should know-"

"Where is she?" I cut him off, not liking the tone his voice carried. His eyes subtly darted at the door behind me then back at me. I swiftly made for it but he was faster.

"You can't."

"Let me go!"

"Hanna please!"

"I have to see her!"

"You can't!"

"There are something people can't prevent. Even werewolves. "

"No!" I felt Sage grabbed me but I didn't fight it. "Things can be prevented! That was supposed to be me and she changed it! She died for me!"

I drop my now bandaged finger to the counter I was seated on. Sage brought the tweeters to my knees and gently began to pull the shards of glass from them. I sat there in silence, watching him, how he seemed to be doing everything but meet my gaze. After dragging me from my mother's body, he took me upstairs to his room and ran me a bath. I sat there in the tub, as he washed the dirt and blood from my body, all that filled my ears were Charlie's screams and rage. He was with Angela when it happened, and he'd come back when he heard I resurfaced, but no one told him of his now deceased mother. And it's not like he could have known too because she wasn't a wolf. I just feel sorry for his father.

I barely flinched when Sage began to disinfect my cuts. I've just been acting like a zombie since I've seen her, and I feel like I'm going back to that dark place. And it didn't help that he was practically ignoring me too. I know he's still angry about me leaving, and supposedly 'vanishing' from the face of the earth for eight days. Even if he was relieved when he saw me, everything seemed to submerge when we're alone. It always did.

The silence between us only intensified whenever he purposely avoided touching me unnecessarily. He didn't even try hiding it, which dropped a brick on my chest. As he applied the bandaid, only when his fingers brushed against the skin of my knees did he meet my gaze. I memorized the moment perfectly, his eyes never leaving mine as each cut was covered. Something unspoken transpired between us and I almost recoil in fear. He gripped my waist and lifted me from the sink. Without a word, he just walked out of the bathroom, and I trailed closely behind. I stopped at the edge of his bed and watch as he walked to the end of the room. For a while, he didn't face me, but when he did, I stared into his cold red eyes.

"It's a full moon tonight," he said, to my obvious astonishment. "They changed now since I'm mated to you, and now a full Alpha."
