The net went passed the half way mark and I inwardly screamed. It means we only have literally fifteen seconds left to make it over. I looked to Jacob and I was tempted to slip my hand away.
"We're not gonna make it!" I yelled.
"Yes, we are." He tried to pick up his speed, which only made me stumble and trip, but as soon as my knees dug into the ground I was pulled back to my feet. "Run Hanna!" He urged.
"I'm trying!" I cried, trying to ignore the pain throbbing in my knees. The net was almost down and we still wouldn't make it, at least with me slowing him down. I tried the retract my hand but his grip only tightened. "Let me go!"
"Are you crazy!"
"I'll be fine with Troy!"
"No!"
I looked to the net again and squeezed my eyes shut. "Jacob!"
The next thing I knew, I was soaring through the air like a stiff bird. My back hit the ground before anything else and I swear I experienced the rupturing my spine along with it. I rolled roughly through the leaves and twigs until my body settled next to a dried up bush.
He threw me! I can't believe he freaking threw me!
A groan sounded from me as I rolled over onto my side. I brushed away the small rock that was digging into my side and looked in front of me. I could hear footsteps heavily thumping, and they were so many trees and dirt paths that lead every which way.
I'm in the woods...
"I actually made it." I sighed.
"You're welcome." I heard before I felt his arms encasing my shoulders and hoisting me to my feet.
"I can't believe you threw me," I say, turning to him. "I could have died!"
"But you're not dead are you."
"W-w-w" I stammered. "I'm lucky to even be alive!"
He laughed. "You're acting like it was ten yard. It was just five meters."
"That could have killed me. What if I got more than scratches? Like I don't know," I tapped my chin. "a freaking branch sticking out of my arm!"
"But they were just scratches." he reminded me, a devious glint in his eyes.
He's enjoying this...
I sucked my teeth at him. "Whatever, let's just find everyone else." I matched off to a random direction.
"Hanna, it's the other way."
"Can we rest now?" I mumbled. "It's been twenty minutes and my legs are about to fall off."
"No. We're still behind and separated."
"Please?"
"No."
"Please?"
"Either you lose the foot or you take an arrow to the back."
"Is there a third choice?"
He stared at me for awhile. "Yes but," he paused. "you'd have to really trust me on this one."
"What is it?"
"I'll take the arrow for you but you have to move exactly when I tell you to. If you don't, it might pick up on your movements and follow you instead or it'll pierce right through me and hit you."
"No, I won't let you do that. You heard what Troy said about their arrows."
"I'll heal. And I doubt he'd use them at practice. He's not that crazy, right?"
"You'll get hurt, though. What if it hits an artery or something?"
"Look who's suddenly concerned. Don't me tell you're only snippy when Sage's near?"
"Trust me, he didn't have to tell me anything. You rubbed me the wrong way since day one, but I keep getting the feeling that you've changed somehow."
He looked away. "I told you, I had to be like that because of the Raiders. I really did like you Hanna. And I still do."
I blushed fiercely at this. That was extremely unexpected. This wasn't the first time he told me he liked me, but before he didn't have much credibility. He was chasing skirts left, right, back and center and his malice towards Sage didn't make it better. Now that he's different, he seems much more sincere and honest, but that scared me. It was easier to let him down when his feelings didn't bother me.
"Now's not really a good time for this..."
"I know." he quickly said. "I was just saying. But if Sage ever messes up," he smirked. "you know where to find me."
