"It's just Vin." His brother mumbled. If anything he was a replica of Conner, the only difference was that he was shorter with a baby face he looked about thirteen.
"Don't mind him." Conner sighed.
"So do you guys have a plan for this trail?"
"Umm, isn't that kind of your job as Luna?"
I blushed fiercely. "Right."
He laughed. "Relax, I was only poking fun. Still, it really is your job. But don't worry we've already established a group leader and he's coming up with a plan for the worst case scenarios."
"Who's group leader?"
"Jacob McFarlon. He's new to the pack actually but he's good."
I didn't need to hear anything else after that. I pushed through the crowd of people and forced my way to the center. It was there that I found him crouched down with a girl and a guy like they were having some form of discussion.
After a while, he looked up and saw me there before him. I haven't seen him since he got transformed into a wolf so looking at him now was kind of surreal.
He slowly stood up and walked over to me, staring at me for a while before he hugged me. I didn't even realize that was hugging him back too. We weren't even that close, but I guess it's because there's one person here that I kind of trust. Even if it was him.
"Are you okay? Last I heard you were dead."
I pulled away. "A lot of people thought that."
"So you ready for this?" Jacob asked. "No food, water, shelter and bed can be killer to the mentality. We're all gonna have to survive this boot camp but I doubt we'd all stay together for long. Like he said, what if you get separated from the pack."
"I bet that was mostly directed to me."
"Don't worry." he gently took my hand. "I won't let anything happen to you."
It was now occurring to me how much of a jerk Jacob wasn't anymore. It was like being bitten gave him a new personality. It wasn't like I expected him to become this evil werewolf due to his already corruption, but it was refreshing. I can't handle another Jason on my hands.
"Alright pups, and human!" Troy yelled, silencing the chatter. "You have two days. Don't disappoint me. The countdown will begin at the combustion of this flare gun." he pointed out. "You will have thirty seconds to make it into the woods before the net falls down. If you are outside that net after those thirty seconds are over, then you're stuck out here with me." he smiled, and I could only think about how screwed I was.
"I feel like he's just making up things as he goes. He never said anything about a net or being stuck out here."
Looking at the distance where we were, I knew I shouldn't even bother. I wasn't gonna make it.
"And he never said anything about that trail either," Jacob said. "But even if he did, would it have made a difference? We're only as strong as we make ourselves, Hanna. It's all in your head. Don't think about the distance, just run."
At the sound of the gun, my eyes squeezed shut as my heart shot up my throat. Everyone was in a frenzy, a chaotic, boisterous, frenzy. It took me a split second and Jacobs yelling to make me realize I haven't started running yet.
My legs then took off and I tried to catch up with the others. Jacob started slowing down and I assume was to wait for me. People began to pour into the entrance of the woods as the net descended, and I recognized one of the lucky ones as Sage. Jacob took my hand and dragged me along his speed. We were still one of the few at the back but we might have a chance. He was shoving through everyone he came across like a wheat field but I don't think it was anyone in our group. We all kinda got mixed up along the way.
