“Then what is this all about?” I asked, trying to keep my tone formal, my hands resting in my lap. I was done with the guessing games. If he wanted something, he needed to be straightforward about it.

He seemed to be considering something, a hint of hesitation in his eyes. I could see the conflict within him, the desire to tell me everything, but something held him back.

“Your speech made quite an impression on me,” he finally said, a smirk playing on his lips, making me swallow nervously. “I have to admit, you were right about some things.”

The admission caught me off guard, but it also sparked a flicker of curiosity. I wasn’t scared or wary, just... curious.

“Just some?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. The question made him chuckle, and I couldn’t help but smile a little. There was something disarming about him, and I found myself drawn in, despite everything.

“Let’s not get carried away,” he teased, settling into the chair across from me. His tone grew serious as he leaned forward slightly. “This is your chance to change everything, Katherine. Tell me everything from the beginning…”

I tried to stay calm. It was nearly impossible in the Lycan King’s presence, but I did my best. The fact that he was incredibly good-looking didn’t help. Neither did the memory of how he brushed me off and humiliated me over the phone. That memory was still fresh, and it bugged me. He bugged me. He stirred emotions in me that I didn’t like. I’d been trained to conceal my feelings at all times. As a Luna, I wasn’t supposed to growl, get angry, or openly express what I felt. A perfect Luna had to be perfect at all times.

I’d always been considered one of the best at that.

But with the Lycan King, all I wanted was to walk up to him and slap his incredibly handsome face. Hard.

I hadn’t even felt that way with Maximus, even though I knew he deserved it more.

The man in front of me, who seemingly couldn’t take his eyes off me, irritated me to the point of provocation. I wanted to do something about it. His scent of coffee and sandalwood, two things I loved most, also bothered me.

I wished Aila was with me. My wolf had better instincts and could help me figure out what to do. Having her all my life, it was hard to be on my own now.

But I had no choice.

“What exactly do you want to know, Your Majesty?” I asked politely, trying to hide my irritation. A little smirk still touched his lips.

“Everything, Katherine.” He used my name, which felt way too intimate for our first face-to-face meeting. But he was a lycan—arrogant beings who thought themselves higher than wolves. So, I had to swallow that.

“Should I start with my childhood then?” I retorted, unable to resist the snark. Almost as soon as the words left my lips, I bit down, causing an internal growl from him.

Okay, no more jokes then.

“You asked for my help,” he reminded me.

“So, you are divorcing your husband,” he began.

“Yes,” I replied after a pause. Was he wondering if I was hesitating? My husband was literally with another woman in front of everyone at that very moment.

“Is it decided?” he asked, his tone more menacing than he probably intended, causing me to shudder a bit.

“It is,” I replied calmly, and he let out a sigh he had been holding back for so long. “However, he doesn’t know yet.”

“Oh?” The Lycan King arched his brow, watching me with amusement. What kind of game did he think I was playing? “How so?”

“For now, he thinks he can have it all.” My lips curled into a smirk, and the beast inside him was howling at my sassiness. “His wife, his mate, and his pack.”

“But you have other plans in mind?” he asked, trying not to sound too hopeful. I noticed how Richard, still in the room, gave him a puzzled look.

“You know that very well, Your—Jacob,” I corrected myself, and he smiled. I was learning fast. “I won’t be a Luna to a man who betrayed my trust. When we promised loyalty to each other, I took it seriously. If I had met my mate, I would have rejected him the same day.”
