"Because I'm not close to the situation, Aaron would flip if he knew and you had to tell someone or it was going to eat you forever." He sighed a little staring at the curvy babe that just spilled her guts to him, this was bad, they just made an attachment. He had to admit though he played dumb pretty well. He cleared his throat gently. "I have a serious question though, have you ever done any self-defense classes?"
Sam looked at him baffled. "Um no, I mean Aaron has taught me a few things but not an actual class." Sam ran her hands through her hair. "And I don't think I could handle the contact if I am inned or something stupid like that, I mean you saw what I did to Brady and I've known him my whole life, I don't want to look like a complete idiot."
Blake tilted his head to the side a bit. "Okay, we start tomorrow."
"We?" Sam gasped out, her breath caught, what was this man thinking?
"Yeah, you and me, I don't like that you feel defenseless and you can't tell me that you don't."
"How do you know?" Sam refused to look up at him as she stared at the bed, even when she couldn't look into his eyes, he still did something strange to her, unnerved her.
Blake sighed as he hooked a thumb under her chin. "Look, I know I'm not an expert on anything but I'm pretty good at putting myself in people's shoes and if I had been through what you're going though I'd want to give myself an edge that no one would expect." He rubbed the side of her chin gently.
"But what if I flip out when you try to do something to help me?"
"Better that it's in private and we will stop and try all over again."
Sam could do nothing but stare at Blake like he had grown a second head. "I still don't get why."
Blake sighed and shook his head, he couldn't tell her the real reason why he cared about her. "Because it makes sense to be prepared and you refuse to tell Aaron, so there will be times you are out by yourself, no one being around able or willing to help, Aaron would can my hide if he knew I knew and did nothing to encourage you or help you out to be prepared just in case," he swallowed hard, he could handle this no problem. "So, we doing this?"
Sam pulled her chin away from him as she pulled her knees up against her chest as she contemplated the thoughts. It was either tell Aaron and not be able to go anywhere or do anything without a body guard or let Blake help her with some new moves. "Okay." She gave in, it would be easier to tell Aaron but she didn't want her freedom taken away.
He laid his warm hand on top of one of her cold small hands. "Come on let's get you inside, you're freezing." He stood and pulled her along with him. They went down the steps and he wrapped an arm around her trying to shield her from the crispness of the night air. He walked her up to the porch and dropped his arm. "I'll see you in the morning, get something to eat then get a good night sleep, I'm putting you to work tomorrow."
She smiled up at him which made her heart shape face and beautiful gray eyes shine. "Good night Blake."
"Goodnight." He turned away and headed back to the barn. He had some happiness in his soul, she wished to see him again. But he couldn't say anything until the time was right, he just hoped that keeping his identity a secret for now didn't blow everything. He went straight to bed with Sam heavily on his mind.
Sam went to the kitchen where Aaron was making supper.
"There you are, where have you been?"
"I was apologizing to Blake."
"I see."
"What?"
Brady saw her first. "Hey short stuff, finally decided to join us huh? Ready to get dirty and do some real work today?"
"Yeah I'm ready," Sam leaned between Aaron and Blake and her breast brushed against Blake's bicep but she moved quickly as she grabbed some bacon and toast. She ate as she headed out the door. "See you out there!" She called as she shut the door.
She grabbed her phone and began to make the phone call to the office.
"Hello thank you for calling T&D how may I help you?" The friendly chipper woman's voice answered.
"Cecilia it's Samantha, can you put me through to Sara please?" She asked trying to match the friendly tone.
There was a long pause before Cecilia answered. "Just a moment Ms. Conners." Cecilia put her on hold then she heard the ringing.
"Sara Matthews how may I help you?" Her voice sounded so high pitched, like she was distracted or very upset.
"Sara, it's Samantha,"
"Oh Samantha I'm so glad you called, are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm okay, why wouldn't I be, what's wrong Sara?" She could hear the fear in Sara's voice and it was sparking her own fear now.
