"Darling, wake up, it's your birthday." I called out.

"Daad, five more minute." She whined.

"No young woman, get out of bed this instant or else..." I gave a dramatic pause for more effect.

"Or else what?" She challenged.

"You know what." I replied her.

Hoping we don't have to practice our old tradition of cold bath in bed.

"Oh, that what?" She said. Seeming to have understood what awaits her grumpy butt if she isn't out of bed this instant.

"Yup." Was my simply reply.

"No no no, am awake okay?!" She said almost terrified.

"Just get out. I need to get dressed." Was her snickery reply.

"Always so grumpy." I murmured. As I made my way out of her den.

My little fire fly has grown.

And when I say grow, I mean into a beautiful young woman.

She is eighteen today. And I must say, I am indeed blessed to have been part of her transitioning.

I think I should name her my "caterpillar". Cause now she has burst open from her cocoon and turned into a beautiful butterfly.

I would be taking her to the club tonight. Just the two of us. Not like she hasn't been sneaking off to them before now. But today is special. I get to go with her without worries that she is a minor.

I know you'd all wonder, "why the club of all places?"

You remember George?

Well, let's just say he got into college in a far away place last year. He had to call things off with my caterpillar. I for one, I'm relieved. I don't get to stress about the probability of them doing the dirty and my caterpillar getting pregnant. But as we all know, "young love" it burns and spreads like wild fire. She is devastated.

It was okay the first quarter of this year, she called, he called, I had to stop her from going over to his school during the holidays.

Then college work became serious and he barely had time to contact anymore. The next thing we know, he calls her to call things off. Said distant relationship wouldn't work out. And the rest, they say, is history. So I decided, what best way is there to clear one's head than getting drunk in a club?

"Dad? Where are we going?"she asked

"Shopping darling." I said distractedly.

"You gotta be kidding me." She mumbled.

"What? You don't want to go shopping?" I asked holding my hands to my chest pretending to be heart broken.

"Not with you!" She exclaimed.

"Then with who?' I asked

"Can't Nora take me?" She dialogue

"No baby, she can't. She has things to do today. She sends her love though. And a very delicious chocolate flavoured cake." I said with a knowing smile.

She didn't even let me say more. She was in the kitchen the next minute searching or more like sniffing out the cake's whereabout.

"Where is it! You better not be pulling my legs." She growled out her warning.

I can't help the smile that finds abode on my lips at the sight of my little tiger looking for her favourite chocolate cake.

"Daaad, where did you hide it!" She whined clearly frustrated.

"Oh love, its right here." I said with a smirk.

Her head snapped towards my direction with a speed that made me fear she is soon to have a concussion.

"Dad." She warned

"Daughter." I retorted.

"Give me my cake." She dead panned

"Fine." I said handing her my phone. On the screen is a picture of a lovely dark chocolate flavoured cake.

"This is all there is? I thought there was a real cake!" She

exclaimed

Now she was mad.

"How can you and Nora do this to me on my birthday!" She glared daggers at me.

I knew what was coming. With hands raised up in mock surrender and a devilish smile, I said the words that would begin a game of chase.

"Because we are grown ups. There's nothing you can do about it." I challenged.

That fire I see so often, sparked within her blue eyes. Just like electric current.

"Oh, we would see about that!! she growled." Accepting my challenge as she sprang forward..

"Who is the old dog now?" I asked a very flustered Angel

"Yoou.." She said out of breath.

"Oh really? Then I'll just keep tickling you then."

"No,no! Please not again! I'm gonna throw up."

"That's fine. You haven't had anything to eat yet, so it shouldn't be that messy."

"Daad! No kidding. If you don't stop I will."

"Not until you say I am the best dad in the world."

"Never." She said out breath.

"Fine by me." Tickle continues...

"Okay! I'll say it." She exclaimed.

"I'm all ears Darling." I said triumphantly.

"My dad," she started.

"Go on," I urged.

"Is the..." She continued.

"Yes?" I waited.

"Oldest dog ever!" she said, springing out of my loosened grip as she ran up to her room.

I can't believe I got tricked by my own daughter.

Women are so cunning.

"Get back here you!" I called to her.

"Catch me if you can!" She shouted right back.

"I'll get you for this!" I told her.

"Yeah, yeah. Do as you please." Was her snide remark.

Oh boy, so much trouble, and the day hasn't even started yet. This is going to be one long day. And I only hope the night's longer.
