"Cause," she smirked. "she's just like me. And in two weeks you'll see if I'm right."

"Okay, so if I was pregnant, would it be four months too?"

"I don't really know. Technically you're not human, but, you kinda are.

"I don't understand."

"You'll have to ask my dad. He used to document these things. But right now, you shouldn't be worried about that. You're about to go on a romantic date with my brother and I won't let you distract yourself."

Like he told me, I tiptoed through the late night to the back of the house where Sage was nowhere to be found. I waited a good ten minutes before I got fed up and was ready to leave. As soon I took one step a there was swift movement in the darkness and I felt myself dangling upside down and slight breeze under the skirt of my dress.

"I know, I know, I'm late." he said before I could.

"I thought for sure I'd be decomposed by the time you got here."

"Aww," he cooed. "look who has jokes today."

"Only because you let me wait."

"I had to make sure everything was perfect. This is the first official date.

"I'm expecting a surprise."

"Demanding aren't we tonight? Don't worry," he smacked my ass. "I'll take care of you real good."

A giggled sounded from me as he sped off. I could hear the crunching of the leaves and twigs under his feet as he ran through the forest and suddenly a thought came to mind.

"Hey, what about the Raiders? Aren't they gonna try to kill us?"

"Already had Alaric on that. Nothing's gonna disturb us tonight."

"Oh," I said slyly. "You thought of everything."

"Damn right! I'd like to be out here and not look over my shoulder every ten seconds."

"True that."

I noticed a flickering of lights as he ran down the path, and the closer we got, I realized they were small candles.

He began walking now.

"I'm guessing I was supposed to follow the trail?"

"Kind of. I was supposed to walk you down it but there was a change of plans. Carrying you seemed more inviting."

"See when you say it like that it's so misleading considering you threw over your shoulder like a sack of potatoes."

"But you're a cute little sack."

"Flattery will get you everywhere."

"That, I already knew." He said slyly.

"Oh?" I rose a brow. "So where are you trying to get?"

"In your pants of course."

"But you won't."

"Then you don't know me at all."

"I know enough."

"Like?"

"Like how you're probably wondering how long this walk is going to be. And that you can't wait to see what catastrophe I managed to pull together before you lose an appendage. And I know that you'll like it anyway cause you know I tried..."

I stopped walking but I didn't open my eyes.

"And I know that you always consider everyone's feelings but yours, even if you don't show it. I know that you're terrified of me in some way that you could never find it in yourself to come to me with anything, and somehow you think you've got everything figured out. But you don't know I'll wait, that I'll always wait. Even if it killed me."

"It's not fair to you." I found myself saying. "You deserve to know."

"Then tell me."

I sighed. "It's not that easy."

"How? All you have to do is tell me."

Right now, Sage was the epitome of what I wanted. He was the only thing I knew would keep me grounded and make everything subside. He could stop the panic coursing through my veins so I can finally breathe. But after all he said, I did the most heartless thing a person could ever do.

I walked away.

It wasn't because I didn't care, I just couldn't handle his eyes on me. But I had enough common sense to tell myself to stop when I didn't hear him follow me. The scene was too familiar, too painful.
