"And this is Mike, Adam, Devin and Scott," he said, pointing to each of them as their name was called. They all greeted me in a union and I couldn't help but find it weird. It almost seemed well rehearsed. But their names seemed to suit them well.
"Don't think that this changes me not talking to you," I said.
"Kinda hard to do when you're talking to me now," Sage said amusingly. "She just can't help herself, guys."
Was this actually happening?
I was about to retort but held my tongue when the teacher walked in the class. He just got saved.
Later.
"Sorry about that class, family emergency." He gathered up some paper on his desk and then fixed his glasses. "I don't think many of you have heard but we have a new student joining us. Has anybody seen her?"
At those words, I sunk down in my chair. I hated introductions, much less attention. My plan of maintaining a low profile and having the whole class know who I am isn't apart of the plan. I saw Sage shot me a confused look and I shook my head at him. I thought he understood what I meant, but my eyes turned murderous when he smirked at me.
"Hey, Mr. Wise! I know her!" I looked pleadingly at him, but he just continued. "Her name is Hanna and she's right here!" he pointed at me and I could feel all eyes on me.
Sage, you just made number 1 on my hit list.
"Hello there." Mr. Wise greeted. "Hanna, why don't you introduce yourself?"
I didn't hesitate. I shook my head, refusing.
"Oh cmon Hanna," Sage teased, and I glared at him.
"I. Said. No." I told him.
"Why?"
His voice was calm, menacing. I felt kind of uncomfortable with that kind of display of authority. Angela's shock face turned to anger and she glared at me before huffing in her seat. Believe it or not, I didn't think he would defend me. I just thought someone like him would join in on the fun. He's been messing with me since I walked in here so what else should I think? I slowly turned in my desk, trying not to look at him. I probably I should have said something but he looked as if he was not to be bothered at the moment. Maybe I could thank him some other time, but right now, I felt fidgety next to him.
As if sensing my distress, he turned to me, but the bell rang over his voice. I didn't even wait for him to try and talk to me a second time. I just bolted it out of there, ignoring the calls I got from him. I really don't know why I'm panicking like this. He's just giving me a strange feeling and I don't know what it is.
Lunch finally came and I was dying to eat something. I skipped dinner and breakfast so I don't care what goes in my stomach as long as it's food. I grabbed a lunch tray and picked up a slice of pizza, not caring that it had cheese on it. If this was some other day I would stay far away from pizza, but when I'm really hungry, I'll eat anything. Walking through the cafeteria, something came to mind.
Where am I gonna sit?
I looked around frantically for an empty seat but I couldn't find one. And everyone seemed too lost in their social life to notice the girl standing there awkwardly. Spotting an empty table next to the window, I decided that's better than nothing.
Who needs people anyway!
I didn't even take five steps before I felt someone's arm loop in mine, pulling me the other direction.
