In this standout chapter of the Internet novel New Wolf, Shea introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

"He's taking me somewhere?" I stopped. "Is like a date?"

Nichole smirked at my question. "What do you think?"

I pondered on this for a few moments, but I wasn't really sure what to say. Could he really be taking me out on a date, as in the two of us, alone, by ourselves, nobody else around...

My stomach fluttered.

This can't be good. I'm nervous, and when I'm nervous the weirdest and most unorthodox things precipitate from my mouth. Things equivalent to a psycho ready to hit the nut house for a while, but I guess that's not the worst thing that could happen.

It seemed as if my face gave away all that was stirring in me because out of nowhere Nichole busted out a laugh.

"Hey, there is no need to freak out you'll be fine."

"No, no I won't!"

"Yes, you will." She shook my shoulders. "Just picture it like any other date."

"That would have been fine if I've been on an actually date before! Try being trapped in your dates RV with his crazy family, or cliff diving where you were by force, thrown, off the cliff. The only dates I've been on were in groups and I don't think any of them were memorable."

"Oh! Does it mean I have a newbie!" she squealed. "Yay! This is going to be so much fun!"

Yay? Fun? No way in hell do I think those two words deserve to be in a sentence together. As far as I see it, I'm hopeless, and this is why I gave up on relationships in the first place. They don't mix well with me.

"Yeah, sure..." I answered.

"That's the spirit!" She then pushed me toward the bathroom. "Now, off to the shower with you!"

Sage POV

"So you're okay?"

She rolled her eyes at me in annoyance. Considering I asked her that same question for the last hundredth time, I'd be annoyed with me too.

"Yes, I'm fine. As I told you like 18 times in the last minute, It's okay. Look, we had a thing and it was great, and I don't regret us ever being together. But it's time to move on, you have your mate now, you should be happy."

I knew all she said was true but I just couldn't ignore the fact that she was already over me. I know I might be sounding a bit arrogant, but really? I'm hot!

She was being so nonchalant about the whole thing and I thought this was going to be some emotional, heartfelt, teary crap that I'd had to set my pride aside and say what's needs to be said.

Dramatic? Yes, I know.

But all she said to me was, "Okay, it's fine. I'm over you anyway."

"So you're over me?"

"Yep!" she declared proudly.

"I don't believe you!"

"See!" Katelynn said and stuck her tongue out at me.

"I don't believe you! Nobody gets over me that fast!"

My mother gave me an odd look. "But why do you care?"

"Because my dear mother, even though I don't need to tell you all this because it's obvious enough, I'm irresistible."

"So you expected her to be like all your other girlfriends that would never leave you alone?"

"Yes."

"Sage, not all girls are like that."

"Take her word for it, Sage. And fair warning, I think Hanna's like that too." I heard Mike's laughter.

When did he get here?

I turned around to him only to see that his laughter had stopped. I was about to follow his line of sight when I felt a death grip on my forearm and I was dragged away from the kitchen by Katelynn. She threw me into one of the empty rooms and locked the door.

"Hey, what the hell was that for?" I asked, feeling like I now had a limp arm.

"Who the hell is that?" she asked in a monotone.
