This is so ridiculous! I do not need a boy to be happy. Right?

I groaned. Who am I kidding? I'm in love with him...

Whoa, whoa, whoa, stopped the train and hit reverse.

Did I really just admitted being in love with Sage? Oh, Hanna, you and your crazy thoughts.

I squinted my eyes as something caught my attention in the distance.

"What the hell is that?" It looked like a cross between a man and....something else. "What the...."

It looked at me and I jumped back. I landed on my butt and backed away. It looked like it was coming this way. It began running and I quickly got up and shut the window, then shut the blinds, and pulled the drapes. I backed away slowly against the bed in a panic.

"It was just my imagination."

That has got to be it.

"I'm sure if it was anything the others would know by now. Yeah. It's nothing. It's probably cause I'm missing Sage."

But....to be on the safe side, I'll check if it was still out there.

I pushed the edge of the drape aside and slowly slid up a column of the blinds.

There was nothing there.

I let out the breath I did not even know I was holding.

Good.

Still....I did not feel comfortable in my room anymore. I think I should just go to Sage's.

I tiptoed out the door, being careful not to wake anybody up. And just when I thought I was in the clear-

"Hanna?"

I slowly spun around on my heel. "Hey, Scott." I forced out.

He walked into the moonlight. "What are you doing?" he asked, clearly confused. I would be too if I came to find a teenage girl creeping around in the dark.

"Oh, you know....nothing." I tried my best to sell.

He folded his arms across his chest. "Uh huh. I wouldn't say nothing because it looked to me like you were about to enter Sage's room." he quirked a brow.

"No, I wasn't!"

He grinned. "Okay, so go back to your room then."

I shot daggers at him and open Sage's bedroom door. "Screw you." I stuck my nose in the air. He laughed, but regardless I can still see the fret in his eyes.

My eyes softened, " Don't worry about her."

"Yeah, I guess."

His lips might be saying the words but I know he does not mean them.

"Good night, Scott."

"Night."

"You can you the house phone." I offered. "It's next to the refrigerator."

He dialed the number and waited for someone to answer.

"Hey Mom-" he pulled the phone away from his ear and cringed. I guess she was yelling at him. As I devoured my bag of Ruffles, I watched the entertainment before me as he managed to only get a few words out. "But mom- No, it was only- It wasn't my fault- I would have called- I got arrested-" he pulled the phone away again but this time I heard his mother's voice.

"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING! WHAT DID YOU DO?"

"Nothing! It's not that bad!" he assured.

"NOT THAT BAD! YOU WENT TO JAIL!"

"It was a holding cell." he correct.

"WELL, THAT'S HOW IT ALL STARTS OUT! WHAT DID YOU DO?"

"I was in a fight. It got out of hand and-"

"OH MY GOD! MY POOR BABY'S ALREADY IN FIGHTS! DID YOU JOINED A GANG? WHO IS THIS SICK BASTARD THAT POISONED YOUR MIND!"

Ah, that would be me.

"Mom, I'm not in a gang," he whined. "And my mind's not poisoned."

"I CAN'T BELIVE MY BABY IS TURNING INTO A DELINQUENT!" she went on. "WERE DID I GO WRONG!" she said, teary-eyed.

"Mom..." he tried to consult her.

And here I thought my mother was crazy.
