I reached for the back of my head but retracted my limb when my suspicions had been confirmed.

My fingers held blood due to my not so gracious fall, all courtesy of Jacob's block of a head.

"Hanna,"

I looked up to see Sage staring at me intently. His nose twitched as if he was sniffing the air. He silently walked towards me, and softly gripped the back of my head.

"You're bleeding," he whispered, and I gently pulled my head away. "Does it hurt?"

"I'm fine. Just a little dizzy."

"Are you sure? I don't like you getting hurt. I rather have my bones broken one by one than seeing you in pain."

I shifted a bit. "Isn't that a bit extreme. I mean, it's just me."

"Never say that. You're much more."

Yeah, me. The same person who almost got everyone kill is so great.

"Right." I averted my eyes.

Silence.

Silence.

Silence.

"Nichole said that they sneaked out the back, and will meet us at the pack house." He said as if he didn't notice my tone. I was sure he would have readily told me I was the most important thing in his life- in the world even. But I was met with nothing. And it was kind of saddening. "They couldn't wait for us because the bleeding was getting bad."

"So how will we leave?"

He pointed towards the window and I felt my stomach hit the ground. We were residing at the second floor as of now, and the distance to the ground was pretty damn horrendous.

Maybe to me.

Sage might probably land with perfect balance, but then there would be me, a splat next to him.

The dizziness was now returning.

Gosh, I feel sick.

My eyes locked on Sage, and he seemed to be coming closer to me. But his legs weren't moving. I stumbled forward and widened my eyes in an attempt to end my swirling vision. My head was hurting again, pounding actually.

Jen shot her a sad smile. "It's inevitable. The bite was supposed to change him but it didn't. It didn't go far enough."

"Meaning?" Scott spoke.

"Meaning," Jen continued. "He has twelve hours left."

Everyone gasped.

"When he got bitten, his blood got contaminated during that thirty hour period."

"Do you know with what?"

Jen ran a hand through her hair. "Yes, actually. But I had no idea it still existed. The thing that caused the infection is similar to what poisoned you, Sage. The only difference is that this one's fatal."

So Jacob was wrong then. They did get to him.

"What do we do?" Sage sighed. "There must be something we could do? I may not like him but I can't just let him die."

Jen shook her head, the words seeming too finalizing to leave her mouth. And I just stood there, with tears in my eyes for the last person I'd ever cry for. There was something about the atmosphere that got to me. Maybe the helplessness of the situation seemed familiar, maybe it was the fact that it reminded me of my dead father, maybe I was just was scared for me.
