"Okay," Sage whispered to me. "I'll distract them while you run. I'll meet you in the kitchen."
"What if they follow us?"
He grabbed my face and stared into my eyes. "I'll fight them off. No matter what it takes."
"What if you don't make it?"
"Then I'll be at a better place...At least until dinner."
I reached up and stroked his cheek. "You're a brave man Mr. Fischer."
He gripped my hand. "Malady please, Mr. Fischer's my father."
"Okay. You're a brave man Mr. Sage."
"Go, Hanna! Before it's too late!"
"I think they're on to us!"
"Go!"
I didn't think twice before running off. I knew that if was just a game but the idea of having wolves chase after me was kind of exhilarating. I slipped on the grass a few times but I kept running. We got a lot of stares from the pack as we ran around like a bunch of five-year-olds. I heard a bloodcurdling scream from Sage and Mike's sadistic laughter. I began to panic at this and ran in to the darker areas of the yard where the bonfire poorly illuminated.
"You know we can see in the dark right?" Ethan laughed. I practically jumped twenty feet in the air before I scream bloody murder. "Oh my gosh, your face!" He crackled.
"Do you know what you just did! Now they know where I am!"
"I'm sorry! Devin just told me to look out for you. Why were you creeping around in the dark anyway?"
"I was hiding from him and Mike," I said matter-of-factly. "And why were you creeping around?" I rose a brow. "I'm pretty sure you didn't know I was going to be here?"
He visibly stiffened. "What...I-I was just- you know- on a run- yeah! I was on a run!"
He's nervous...Interesting...
I crossed my arms. "Really? But you're not in wolf form."
"...Well...there's a reason for that actually-"
There was a crash and twigs snapping behind us and we turned to the noise. "Ow! Stupid branch!" the voice grumbled. "Ethan, what's taking so long? I don't think anyone's coming!"
Ethan groaned and smacked his forehead. "Dammit April..." he muttered, but I quirked up at this.
"April?" I smirked. "Who's April?"
"Don't!" he pleaded. "I can't let the others know or they'll tell my mom!"
"What's so bad about that?"
"Picture Sage's mom, but times her craziness by 200."
"I don't know, this might actually get the attention off of Sage and I."
He dropped to his knees. "Hanna I'm begging you! I'm even on my knees here!"
"Ethan? What's going on?"
We turned to see April staring at us with wide eyes and I was just trying so hard to hold back my laughter because I could get past how TV dramatic this looked.
"Forget about it. Just keep walking and shield me."
"You should be nice, I'm helping you."
"Well, I helped your credibility with April so I can treat you however I want."
"I thought the Lunas were supposed the be nice and rainbows and sunshine!" He whined.
"I'm different so deal with it!"
"I feel bad for Sage-"
"Shhh!" I hushed him. "I think the coast is clear. As soon as I run you distract them, okay?"
"Yeah."
"In 3...2...1!"
I bolted to the house as fast as I could but as soon as I heard Ethan yelling, I almost had a heart attack.
"I found her! She's over there! Guys, I found her!"
Suddenly I heard footsteps stomping towards me at an alarming rate. If I was a wolf I'd beat Ethan to a pulp for what he did.
That backstabbing bastard!
The next thing I knew, someone came to me at the side and flung me over their shoulder. I began to kick and scream until I heard the familiar laughter that had goosebumps chasing the length of my arms.
