What was she thinking getting herself killed? Why did she think I could handle this?
It's like every time I think about her being dead, my blood runs cold.
I grabbed the arrow nesting in her body and tried to get it out. The only thing I managed to do was cause more blood to seep through the wound and into my hand. I reached up to her face and brush the stray hairs away. "You knew it was you and you didn't say anything! Why did you have to do that?"
I pushed that imaged of her to the back of my mind and continued running. I barely got information about how to become this Warlock Queen and I'm supposed to rely on my memories to figure everything out. The only significant thing that occurred was my flashback to Norway and witnessing my parents murdering someone. That's where it stopped, that's where it always stopped. Ever since that recollection, I kept having dreams about it. But somehow it's always hindered to there, I always wake up after my mother's shocked eyes stared at me.
But there was a feeling that lingered with every awakening. My body felt heated, as it I was inches away from the sun. I could feel my eyes shifting from brown to whatever color it chose. But purple was constant. I knew it meant I was afraid, but it wasn't because my parents killed someone. It was related to something else that occurred but I couldn't, for the life of me, remember. It felt necessary that I know what happens next.
The cool wind swirled my hair around as I laughed gayly down the shoreline. But suddenly the light left my eyes, and then my soul as I watched my parents behead the man that gave me a sea star a few minutes prior. My mother's shocked eyes locked with mine as she wiped the blood away from her split lip-Blankety! Blankety! Blank!
Then what? What?
"We start again at dawn everybody!" Evan announced as he stacked the remainder of the firewood in the pile. Everyone began taking their spot on the ground and making pillows with the dead leaves. I made my way over to Jacob who was religiously trying to start up a fire. I crouched down next to him and watch in amazement as a small spark flared and soon blazed up before my eyes.
"How did you do that?" I furrowed my brows.
He chuckled. "I was a Boy Scout once."
"Wow," I laughed.
"Are you laughing at me?" he inquired. "Those things are pretty legit down here! The guy with the most patches gets the prettiest girl on the playground! The competition was stiff back then!"
"And who was the prettiest girl?" I rolled my eyes.
"Katelynn Peers."
"You mean the same, Katelynn-"
"Yeah." He nodded. "You'd be lucky if you ever got a play date with her, but she was all about Sage, and he wasn't even in Boy Scout. She moved away when we were in high school, but when I saw her here, I found out the real reason why I didn't see her anymore."
"Yeah." I looked away, afraid he'd see everything through my eyes.
"Hey, no need to cry." He said, lifting my chin. "Your precious mate will come rescue you. But first," his expression then darkened. "I have to get his attention."
As soon as the last word left his mouth, I received a bitch slap to the face. I flew across the room and skidded on the hardwood floor. My cheek stung, it felt numb.
"You don't have to tell me." He said, withdrawing me from that reverie.
I chuckled. "So I guess they already told you?"
"So does this tie into you being this powerful queen and everything."
"Yep. I'm like an open book now, considering they change with my emotions."
"What's violet for?"
"Fear."
"For what?"
"I guess the feelings the memories give me. It's not something I want to relive."
"Did they ever-"
"If you don't mind, I don't really want to go into details."
"Sorry, I just thought you'd want to..."
"I know. It'll be easier talking to you than Sage, but not right now. Maybe when we get back?"
