She pointed to the one I was holding.
“I thought I’d never… have… an opportunity,” she stuttered.
She burst into tears, and I did my best not to roll my eyes.
“You can have it,” I stretched my hands with the dress toward her, and pretty much everyone in the room was in shock.
“But Luna!” Olivia gasped, “You need to be the first.”
“That’s fine,” I shrugged. “I saw a red one I liked too. Becca can have this one since it moved her to tears.”
Rebecca seemed a bit startled as I handed her the tasteless peach dress, which would be better suited for a middle school prom in a quaint village.
“No, really,” I smirked. “I want you to have it.”
Our eyes met, and Becca gaped, realizing she had just been tricked.
“Now go to your room and try it on. It will look beautiful on you.” Or hideous.
As soon as Becca left, I quickly went back to the rack and grabbed the first red dress I saw.
“I’ll take this one,” I said and walked out of the room as fast as I could, Ava following close behind. “Choose what you like, ladies,” I called over my shoulder as I left.
We went straight to Ava’s bedroom, and as soon as we closed the door, we burst out laughing hysterically.
“Oh, my Goddess!” Ava chuckled. “That was fun!”
“Indeed,” I agreed, tossing the red dress I had grabbed aside. The real gown I was going to wear to the ball was right here in my room. It was the most beautiful dress I had ever seen—a stunning wine-red off-the-shoulder gown made of silk chiffon that draped beautifully around my bust and down to my waist, creating a geometrical pattern while flowing freely to the ground.
A gown fit for a queen. In my past life, I hadn’t even considered it since it was way out of my budget. But this time, when I saw it again, I thought to myself, why the hell not?
The last time I went to the Alpha Ball, it was the worst experience of my life. Rebecca wore a beautiful white dress, looking every bit like the innocent omega she loved to pretend to be, gaining everyone’s sympathy.
“Huh.” I bit my lip, remembering that Maximus had previously given it to Becca. He had also given her a pair of ruby earrings that she never wore. That had changed too.
However, now wasn’t the time to think about all that.
I put on the necklace since it was the perfect finishing piece and left for the ball.
Walking down the stairs with my dress flowing beautifully, I took a brief moment to admire how I looked. Most of my hair was up, with a few curly locks falling down my bare shoulders.
“You look beautiful tonight,” a male voice made me flinch.
Waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs stood Beta Will. Not my husband. Dressed in a black tuxedo, he offered his hand when I reached him. I was initially reluctant to accept but then reconsidered. He hadn’t betrayed me yet. I couldn’t fully count on him, but there was still time to change the events that later unfolded. If Will supported me at the Alpha Council when my request for a divorce took place, everything could go smoothly.
“Nice dress,” he complimented, and I rewarded him with a brief smile.
“Thanks.” We walked toward a waiting car, and I frowned when I realized it was a limo. That meant I’d have to ride with Maximus and Becca. How unpleasant.
