I used to stay reserved around her, focusing on suppressing my feelings and hiding how much the whole situation hurt me. Becca, on the other hand, masterfully used my responses to paint herself as the sweet girl and me as the icy queen.

But I wasn’t going to let her get away with it anymore. This pattern had to change. Luckily, I had the best teacher—Rebecca herself. She had put me through so many awkward and humiliating situations in the past that I was ready for anything now.

Besides, I knew that what I did before hadn’t worked. So, it was time to try something new.

“I am so sorry, Luna,” Becca sniffled, looking like she was about to fall to her knees again. But I rushed to her and gave her the biggest hug. We both froze, and the room filled with awkward silence. Someone dropped a fork, and out of the corner of my eye, I noticed it was my friend Ava.

“Becca,” I said, finally stepping back with a sad smile on my face, “I can call you that, right? I want you to know this is a safe place for you. No one will ever hurt you here. We are nothing like the pack you came from. You will always be treated well here since you are now a part of our pack. Those hard days are over.”

I quickly scanned the room, taking in the stunned expressions on my packmates’ faces. They didn’t expect this. In my past life, I tried to ignore Rebecca as much as I could while staying polite when we had to interact. Everyone understood, but the more Becca cried, the more they pitied her. She wormed her way into their hearts. Over time, many stood by her because she was, after all, their Alpha’s true mate, and she had a rough past.

Meanwhile, I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. No matter how great of a Luna I was, they thought it wasn’t a big deal since I was born and trained for it. No one understood how much I had worked and sacrificed to reach this level of perfection.

Suddenly, Becca threw herself into my arms again.

“Thank you!” she whined, making me want to strangle her. If Aila, my wolf, were here, it could have ended quickly. But Aila wasn’t close by, and I knew this was now a battle of acting skills.

Meanwhile, Becca kept droning on, “I was sure the nightmare I lived through would repeat here too! But you are so kind! I am ready to do any job, no matter how hard. I’ll be your personal maid if I have to.”

“I’d be happy to!” Rebecca shook her red hair, and the oversized t-shirt she wore “accidentally” slipped off her shoulder, making Maximus look at her with eyes full of lust. The damn mate bond was already working. Our time was slipping away.

“By the way,” I said as I took a sip of my coffee—it tasted more bitter than usual—“we need to allocate a budget for Rebecca.”

Once again, the whole room went quiet.

“Are you sure, Luna?” Beta Will spoke up, “She is just an omega and—”

“She’s not a simple omega,” I interrupted, raising my chin and putting on a perfect smile, “She is our Alpha’s mate. He didn’t reject her, and she’s part of our pack now. She needs to look the part, so it’s time to get rid of the worn-out t-shirts and jeans.”
