Mates are supposed to be loving and caring. They are supposed to be your perfect life partner but my mate is a dark, empty, raggedly looking Alpha consumed in his own rage.
Yes they aren't perfect nor was I looking for a perfect Prince charming but Kevin was far below these things. Well except his good looks of course. I massaged my chest with my right hand gently, hoping it would soothe the pain faintly blooming in my chest. It had started ever since I said those atrocious words to my mate.
"My mate is not going to be a smoker nor a ruffian. My mate is an Alpha, who is responsible, looks presentable and above all, has respect and discipline. So until you meet those requirements, you're just a Nobody to me."
Aubrey was angry with me too. Disconnecting her spirit from mine while she brooded. I recalled the terror and heartbreak that materialized on his face before he stormed out in anger. Where he went to, I knew not but I did know he was going to do something disastrous. My memories further trailed to our closeness, his breaths warmly caressing my cheeks. His Hazel irises gleaming a desire for me to be his and his chest tattoo partially revealing itself through his barely buttoned shirt. I didn't even get the chance to tell him my name!
On second thoughts, I blamed myself. Maybe if I hadn't been so judgmental, or too bossy he wouldn't have reacted that way. Maybe he had a past, a rough one that shaped him to become this but I blew that chance off. The chance to know my mate better.
The soft knock on the door tousled my deep thoughts.
"Imogen," I almost stuttered as the brown haired lady gingerly stepped into my office. She beamed a smile at me which confused me to be honest. Imogen and I never had a conversation of sorts ever since I arrived Greenville, let alone smile at me.
"Hi." She pitched softly while my lips parted into a tiny smile.
"Please, have a seat." I gestured towards the wooden chair where Kevin had previously resided.
"You look worried." Her brows furrowed in concerns as our eyes met. My eyes wavered from hers to a file on my desk. How was I supposed to tell her I found my mate. A Rogue turned Alpha overnight who killed my friend's father.
"Just thinking about yesterday's sudden change of events. Alpha Jason's demise on Greenville's celebratory night and Kevin's claim to the position." I mumbled after several minutes of deliberation on lies not convincing enough.
"I can't even begin to imagine what Jerry must be feeling right now."
She heaved a sigh while her eyes lowered to the floor, focusing on the half squished cigarette.
"Bad." Her voice trailed a whispery path. "This morning, I heard he got into a fight with Kevin. Ever since, he's been clamouring to kill Kevin."
I sighed whilst tucking loose strands of my hair behind my ears.
"Greenville is definitely going to face dark fate with Kevin as Alpha." I uttered and immediately, another pain sprung up in my chest.
She chuckled for a brief moment before seriousness dawned on her countenance.
"Greenville has been in dark fate since long. And honestly, Jerry wouldn't make a good Alpha either." She responded.
She chuckled again, probably to lighten the mood she's already ruined.
"He can't be that bad." I tried to convince when deep down, I couldn't stand her badmouthing my mate.
"Oh you'll see." She toned in a giggly manner. "Now we can only pray to your father to intervene on our behalf."
I gulped down my saliva as an effort to swallow the instant guilt that encompassed me. I hadn't even told my father I found my mate, nor does he know about Alpha Jason's death. I couldn't even begin to envisage how he would react upon meeting Kevin.
"There's no need for intervention." I clarified. "It was a fair duel and by Pack Laws, Kevin is the new and certified Alpha."
"Unfortunately." She quoted with a sigh following suit. Her eyes suddenly ignited with excitement and a grin grimacing her face.
"I'm just glad you're okay. So if you're less busy, perhaps we could have lunch together?"
"S- sure sure." I nodded nervously when in fact I was in deep thoughts. My Father's reaction, Jerry's heinous plans and above all, my PERFECT Alpha mate.
