"Thank you for the ride, Imogen." I uttered as I alighted off her Jeep.
"Oh it's nothing. Have a wonderful night rest." She responded softly with a sweet smile complementing her face.
"Yeah, you too." I smiled back.
"Byeeee!" We waved at each other till she drove along the road. I watched till her vehicle's beam lights disappeared with the dusts and then I turned to the small house before me. Immediately after Alpha Jason's death, Beta Conrad had asked everyone to vacate the Pack house according to Pack Laws. Now all of us, were scattered abroad in Greenville in different back up houses.
I sauntered into my apartment, wearily studying my empty room until Aubrey started with her whining again. Pleading helplessly to visit the Pack House. To at least know how Kevin was doing.
I began to feel imaginary heat raging my chest, several questions burning in my mind. How was I going to face him? Someone I had outrightly insulted. At the same time, I couldn't bare the aching that had been scorching since we last met.
"Darn it!" I stomped my heels against the wooden floor, cursing myself for being unable to keep to my resolve. He would probably think I was beginning to care about him but I didn't!
All this concerns were simply influence of the mate bond. That's all I wanted to believe as I strode towards the Pack House. Immediately I arrived the building, I was sharply greeted by eeriness. Perhaps due to the night or maybe something else. When I reached for the door, I noticed it was broken and there I knew something's gone wrong.
I trotted into the building with my heart racing like sport cars.
My eyes widened in horror, my breaths hung up in my throat as I quivered like a child tossed in cold water.
"Kevin!" I screamed while warm tears embattled my eyes as I watched the scenery in disbelief. The living room was a messily decorated with several alcohol bottles and cigarettes. But that wasn't what terrified me, the sight of my mate's blood painting the marble floor as he laid lifeless beside Jerry and his two friends.
"Claire?!" Jerry mumbled in disbelief, his werewolf eyes still gleaming it's dangerous yellow alongside his friends.
"Leave this instant!" He ordered with a monstrous look while his friends growled at me.
But how was I supposed to leave, they were beating my mate to death!
"No you leave this place! How dare you hit your Alpha?!" I growled as anger flushed through me like an ocean.
"He killed my Father! Claire. Get out!" He barked before focusing on Kevin. He planned on delivering the final death blow but not on my watch. My honey irises transformed into threatening golden yellow. My nose flared while claws protruded out of my fingers. I trotted towards him, grabbed his right fist mid air. With a growl, I threw him away from Kevin. I didn't bother where he crashed, rather I focused on his friends. Baring their canines at me.
"What happened?!" He yelled again as he joined us. Tapping Kevin's face repeatedly but I couldn't answer. My head had gone haywire.
"Oh no!" The man exclaimed as he tore Kevin's shirt open revealing several deep injuries scattered abroad his chest. I could see pieces of broken glass encrusted into his skin. My bloody hands covered my mouth as I gasped.
"He's loosing too much blood, his injuries are severe we gotta give him urgent attention." He muttered as he hastily carried lifeless Kevin in his hands.
"Where are you taking him?!" I managed to ask.
"To his mother!"
I felt air escaped my lungs in shock. Well for various reasons but largely because I never thought my mate's mother was still in the picture.
Regardless, I followed this man. I wasn't that heartless to leave my mate. After all, I cared about him.
