"How is he?"

Walker toned sharply as the rickety door of Kevin's room creaked open. He jumped hastily from the couch and approached Kevin's mother in a blink.

My eyes were already welled up in tears for the past one hour that I couldn't recognize Kevin's mother properly. I wiped them off and then I could see the redness in her eyes. Her face was overly depressed more than mine, she looked like she was going to collapse anytime soon.

"He's recuperating slowly." She muttered in a shaky voice while a tiny tear trickled off her left eye.

Hearing those words alone, weakened my muscles further but I still approached them regardless.

"But he's a werewolf, his wounds should have healed up by now." Walker responded with furrowed brows. His tone alone hinted so much anxiety and worries.

"It seems his werewolf Spirit has detached from his human spirit. Both of them are in a state of extreme worry, all because of me." Her tears intensified and this time they easily toured across her cheeks. Walker inched closer, pulling her in for an embrace while his shirt took the tears.

"If I hadn't said those heartbreaking words to him this morning, perhaps he wouldn't be this broken." She continued in his embrace while tears began to tour my cheeks. There she was blaming herself for her child's misfortune when in fact I was the main cause. If I hadn't been unnecessarily rude and defiant in my words, perhaps things wouldn't have worsened to this extent.

"He's going to be fine, Serene." Walker soothed as he patted her back gently. Their embrace ended solemnly as his phone rang in his pocket. His brows furrowed at his screen for a split moment before placing it to his ear.

"Yes Gabriel," he said. "What?!" He pitched on a surprised note but then tried to hide it which he horribly failed at.

"Don't take any action yet, I'll be there in an hour." He muttered before ending the call.

He glanced at our curious faces hastily before the words rolled out.

"I'm sorry Serene but I have to go now. There's a cogent issue to attend at the Pack." He explained whilst tucking his phone into his pocket.

"Can I see him please?" I asked softly causing both of them to land their gaze on my weary status. I didn't care about this 'Cogent' Issue Walker yapped about all that raided my mind was the pain. The unimaginable pain he was currently phasing through all because of me.

She nodded slowly and my legs wobbled into his room. I tried to brace up. Summon courage in my heart but once I stepped into his tiny room, with Kevin lying shirtless and still unconscious on his small bed. My heart broke, I finally gave in to the tears I embattled. In a strange way I could feel his pain, raging every nerves in my muscles. It hurt especially in my chest, as if my heart were going to explode from it's continuous thumping.

In oblivion, I sat beside him. Staring at my prince charming like an idiot. My view darted to his chest where his several injuries were covered in tiny bits of green leaves. Just one glance alone, I could decipher how deep and haunting they were. At the same time, none of his injuries showed any signs of healing.

This was all my fault!

My gaze returned to his face. Even in his sleep he still retained that deadly look. The look of anger intertwined with pain and sadness. My fingers trembled for seconds before I gently tucked his hair loose strands behind his ears.

And then I embraced his left hand between my palms. I didn't want to be doing this to a mate I haven't even accepted but I felt the need to. A part of me loved this closeness and as seconds wavered by, our pain subsided. His injuries were gradually closing up. I smiled sadly at the miracle happening but deep down it was no miracle. Aubrey's spirit seemed to have bonded with his wolf, hence the speedy recovery.

I clutched unto his warm hand, inadvertently pulling it closer to my chest.

"Are you Kevin's mate?" That question jolted me back to harsh reality. Only then did I realize, his mother was seated by his bedside with furrowed gaze at me. I must have been so overwhelmed in the comfort I received holding Kevin's hand that I lost track of time.

"Ever since, darkness took over. He became so withdrawn, so furious and broken that all he craved for was to avenge his Father's death. The same love he used to have for his Father transformed into hatred." She pursed her lips as she gazed at him, smiling sadly.

"I don't know what you said to him nor do I know if you rejected him or not." She muttered as her left hand gently cusped around his cheek.

"But I do know one thing, Kevin is full of darkness and it's only by the moon Goddess grace he can be changed."

I swallowed my saliva down my throat, still digesting my mate's traumatic past.

"What's your name?, Darling." She asked with our gaze bonding with each other.

"Claire." I mumbled. She smiled, one much lighter than the latter.

"Claire, Kevin is Darkness and you are Light." She gently stated, wrapping her hands around my face.

"Light and Darkness don't correlate. One must conquer the other. So please, think carefully before accepting Kevin into your life."

I swallowed another saliva in hopes my fears would allay but unfortunately, it didn't. If his own mother couldn't vouch for her son then how dark could Kevin be?

Should I simply reject him and save my life of the troubles to come or should I simply resign to the moon goddess fate?
