I rubbed my forehead as I looked down at the papers before me, "So, we're basically going to be governing over an entire town?"
Axil went to sit at the desk as he began flipping through papers, "behind closed doors, yes. Abel and I considered it and we think that we should continue acting like this is a regular human settlement going forward. We'll elect a new mayor for the town so he can act as a figurehead in public but is really just a secretary in private. We need to sort out the ranks that would be given to everyone and how we'll be going about our lives now. We've already gotten the humans to calm down after learning about our existences. It was mostly easy since most the humans here have a werewolf within their family. With that, it'd be hard for them to disclose our identities to outsiders."
"This is why we plan to hold a town's meeting tomorrow. We plan to disclose our plans to the pack and ask for their cooperation going forward. Hopefully, everything goes back to normal in no time."
"So, what are the topics being discussed at the meeting and what have you decided for the future exactly?" I asked curiously. If I was going to be a part of all of this, I had to be aware of what was going on beforehand.
Axil immediately went into details as he began to tell me his plan and where we go from here on out. After he finished explaining, we went straight into the work assigned and did our best to sort out as much as we could.
Before we knew it, the sky had darkened, and it was now nighttime.
I was so engrossed in the work at that point that the time barely registered in my mind. Axil and I worked silently at our own workstations and only spoke when it was necessary. I hated to admit it, but his presence gave me a sense of calm that I haven't felt in such a long time. It made me feel like I could finally relax and let myself be carefree for once.
"Hey Ax," I called out absentmindedly.
"Hmm?"
I glanced over at him to find his eyes solely focused on the papers before him, a serious look adorning his face. I've never seen him this fixated before... it was kinda hot.
His lips twitched as he glanced up to meet my gaze, "your thoughts are heading somewhere very dangerous, precious."
My face heated in embarrassment as I quickly looked away and grumbled in annoyance, "I swear to God if you don't keep your ass out my mind, I'll kick you in the face."
Axil chuckled and switched the topic back on track, "did you want something?"
I recollected my thoughts and brought my attention back to what I was going to say earlier.
"The children who were trapped beneath the stone. The ones who survived but lost their relatives, I have the list right here. What are we going to do with them? Ask others to take them in? I think that'd put too much of a strain on whoever it is, no? Then there's also the option of letting them stay with elders who volunteer to look after them, but those people are too old to be taking care of the children, in fact the children might end up being the ones to take care of them. There's approximately 93 children without relatives accounted for and Sylia doesn't have any orphanages or foster homes."
"Hmm," his eyes glazed over slightly as he communicated with someone, probably Abel, then focused his eyes on me, "should we build an orphanage then? It might take some time but if we put a bit more work into it, we might be able to build the orphanage in approximately five months."
I nodded in agreement at the idea, "it's a good idea. Then we'll need to work out the location, costs, the workers, their wages, and all of that," I groaned and banged my head onto the desk, "work just keeps piling up."
I waved a hand at the door, unlocking it and watching as it was pushed open by a very angry Liza.
I gazed at her in confusion. "What happened?"
Liza bristled as she began pacing the entire office, mumbling furiously under her breath.
"Liza?" I asked.
She suddenly stopped and turned to Axil, pointing her finger at him accusingly, "Why are you wolves so infuriating!?"
Axil raised an amused eyebrow at her, seeming as though he knew why she was bristling, but he didn't say a word.
Liza began pacing again.
I frowned and narrowed my eyes at the grumbling woman, "Ayo, Patrick."
