His lips curled teasingly, "you're right, it was more seductive than that. You took off your clothes and practically cursed me into fu-"

I covered my face with my hands as it heated up, "stop! Stop talking right now, or I'll kick you in the face!"

A laughed rumbled out of his chest as he placed my bag down at the side and came to wrap his arms around my waist, pulling me against his tall frame.

I raised my head to look up into his amused eyes as they gazed down at me. "I don't like you," I grumbled, dejected.

He placed a kiss on my forehead then pulled away, "but I like you."

"Whatever," I muttered, turning around to gaze at the room curiously. "Oh, we have our own bathroom," I noted in surprise.

Axil glanced at the side door and nodded, "Yeah, this is the master bedroom. Abel barely uses it, so he gave it to me instead... since I'm the one with the partner."

I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously, "did you cheat your brother out of his own room?"

Axil rolled his eyes at me, "do I look like that kind of person to you?"

"Yes," I said with no hesitation.

"...."

I chuckled at the exasperated look that crossed his face then sat at the edge of the bed and crossed my legs, "So what now?" I asked.

Axil crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, contemplating, "well... I have paperwork to sort out downstairs in the office and I wanted to bring you along so you can get yourself involved a bit. A couple that works together, stays together, no?"

I scrunched up my face in disgust, "work? What kinda work?"

He chuckled and nodded towards the door, "you'll find out soon enough."

I groaned as I got up and followed him out of the bedroom, my heart heavy as I thought about what kind of 'work' he had in store for me. Was it managing the town's finances? Nah I'm not that trustworthy yet, stupid thought. Was it housing plans? Political issues? Human interference?

He directed us back down onto the first floor and led us into a room near the living room. It was a spacious office space with a large desk standing smack in the centre of the room. File cabinets littered the grey walls as there were papers scattered everywhere. A smaller desk resided in the corner right next to an old navy-blue sofa.

I maneuvered my way out of his arms, "this is your responsibility. I'm just a ride along. Actually... I'm not even a ride along I'm a bystander. I stand here while you pass by and work your shit out. You said it yourself, I've helped you enough. Don't tell me the almighty Alpha can't handle a few paperwork?"

He walked towards the cabinets and began pulling out a few files, "it looks to me like I'm not the one who can't handle a few paperwork. The quicker you start, the quicker we could leave this room and cuddle."

I snorted and gazed around at the scattered papers on the desks, "who'd want to cuddle with you?"

"You're right, I ooze too much sex appeal to settle for just cuddling."

I whipped my head across to look at him in astonishment, "who told you that!?"

He gathered up a few files in his arms and walked over to place them on the small desk that was in the corner, "I heard a few females mention it while I was passing by a few days ago. These are the files I want you to look over for now. This is a list of the full population of Sylia and its people. From their names, age, etc. I don't expect you to remember everyone because it's thousands of us but just sort them out from elders to children to middle aged and if possible, separate the genders as well."

I walked over to the desk and sat down, picking up a folder curiously and opening it. A grimace adorned my face, and I placed the folder back down, "why this much paperwork? What happened to doing things electronically? It'd be so much easier if we had everything on a system," I complained.

Axil nodded, "Abel already considered that. Since Michael was the one in charge of the town for years, he didn't bother to carefully manage these files since it was all unnecessary in his eyes. We're hiring a few professionals to come and set everything up for us, but we need to make sure that all the documents are properly sorted for that. We also have to take note of all structures or improvements that the town needs and do our best to finance and construct it."
