The air was ripe with chatter as I awkwardly stood upon the small podium with Axil, Abel, Liza, Dawson, and a few others. Axil and Abel were conversing with a muscular man that stood tall like a giant, towering over even their 7-foot height. When I had first met him, I was so startled I almost stumbled on my face.

The dude looked like a bald head version of the hulk.

Maybe that was an exaggeration.

A bodybuilder would be a better description. I thought Abel was ripped but then this guy probably soaked every inch of his body in muscles. It made me wonder how his mate could-

Let me stop that train of thought before a certain someone peeked into my head again. I really needed to get him blocked.

I thought I remembered Axil mentioning something about the giant's name being River... Ryder? Something like that. He was one of their best pack warriors, no surprise there and was the only one strong enough to match their strength since he was the one that trained them when they were young.

It's crazy.

He's ancient but he still looks like a guy in his early 40s. Just how slow did werewolves age?

I leaned over to Liza, who was silently brooding at being placed next to Dawson and whispered, "Hey, switch with me real quick."

Liza immediately placed her hands on my shoulders and shoved me into her spot with a huff, "gladly."

Dawson glanced across at our actions indifferently then raised a brow, "must you be so childish?" He directed at Liza.

Liza glared at him and flipped her middle finger, "you look like a child! Your balls probably haven't even dropped yet with that child like face."

"Liza!" I rebuked, but the smile I tried to hide hinted at my amusement.

Dawson's lips twitched slightly but his expression remained blank, "you're always welcome to see for yourself."

Liza snorted, "who'd want to see that? Even your name turns me off. Dawson. Who the fuck finna scream Dawson? Keep dreaming."

"Is this because of what I said yesterday?"

"Like anything you say would ever bother me!"

"So, it is then... Everyone on this podium can agree that you have a colourful character. Why are you so angry? I didn't ask you to stop seeing Bea, I just asked you to let her hang out with other people besides just you."

Liza fumed and turned away, refusing to answer.

I coughed awkwardly as I stood between the two of them then glanced across at Dawson to see him facing forward again, as if that conversation never happened.

"Well, firstly, his mind has to be open to you in order for you to peer into it but it's simple. Find his link that's in your mind and embrace it."

"That's it?"

"That's it."

I hesitated slightly before cautiously asking, "So, how do I create the wall that blocks people from peering into my mind?"

He glanced at me in amusement, "you mean to block Axil from peering into your mind?"

I shrugged my shoulders, feigning indifference, "what happens, happens."

He chuckled and shook his head, turning his attention back towards the crowd, "well, I can't help you with that. Not only is he carefully listening in on our conversation. I'm afraid even if I do tell you, I might not live to see Bea's 16th birthday. I'm quite afraid of our Alpha."

I glanced across at Axil in surprise to find him staring at us intensely. He raised an eyebrow as our eyes met.

I scowled in annoyance and huffed, turning my head away.
