He paused as murmurs broke out amongst the crowd.

Feelings of anger and resentment began to crowd my heart, and I looked out in surprise as I noted that these feelings didn't belong to me. They belonged to the people below me.

If I could feel it, I was sure that Axil could to. I looked over at him to find his expression completely indifferent, a huge contrast from the expressions that he usually showed around me. It looked like he was unbothered with what was going on around him and, to be honest.... it was kinda hot.

He continued, "I know many of you resent our beta Dexter for doing this to us, but I would like to clear a few things up about this matter. Please put aside your anger and listen carefully as I say that our beta was also a victim of Tiana's scheme."

The crowd broke out in outrage as someone shouted furiously. "What the fuck are you talking about!? It's his mate! He bares every responsibility for turning his back on us to please that bitch!"

The crowd nodded in agreement.

Axil raised a hand to silence them, but it was quite difficult as the crowd got rowdier.

Then, to my surprise someone shouted, "Why should we listen to you? Why are you the Alpha?"

This was new to me. I thought werewolves were a tightly packed group of individuals. I never knew they questioned authority like this.

That question alone silenced the entire square, and our eyes zeroed in on the person that spoke. It was a male human who looked like he was in his early 30s.

That answered my speculations.

Of course, it'd be a human.

Why wouldn't it be?

I mentally sighed in annoyance. Only humans were this dense.

Axil's eyes narrowed in on the man, and yet he remained calm after that provocation. He asked, "Do you have a werewolf in your family?"

The man nodded cluelessly, unaware of the tense atmosphere as everyone stared at him, "My wife and our son are both werewolves."

"Given the right traini-"

The man was cut off as Abel growled out a warning.

The woman tugged at her husband's arm as her eyes clouded over, and she began to speak to him mentally.

"Your son is an omega," Axil stated coldly as he began to explain, "let me educate all the humans that are with us today. Werewolves are born with ranks due to their bloodline. We have the Alphas, then the Betas, the deltas, then finally the omegas, the weakest among us. Of course, it is possible for an Omega or Delta to raise in rank, but it's rare since they'll have to kill either an Alpha or a beta. Although they are the weakest of the pack, don't get me wrong. We don't shun them. Our job as leaders is to protect them. That's why werewolves move in packs. Every werewolf in this square right now can feel the dominance in my aura. They might not be familiar with me, but they acknowledge that I'm strong and are willing to listen. You humans don't feel that and that is why you have your doubt or your greedy thoughts, but I'd advise you to carefully think before you act because a man's lust for power could be the very thing that gets him killed."

I mentally clapped in my mind at that as I noticed the slight threat that radiated from his words.

You go, boy!

Show them who's boss!

I could also feel the dominance that radiated off of him, but it wasn't to the extent that I was afraid or bothered by it. It was probably because of me being his mate.
