Being a parent wasn't easy.

It was a job that came with a great responsibility of not only caring for oneself but for another human being. It was a job where your actions and words would have to be carefully chosen as that human's character began to form and develop. It was a job where your feelings are involved on a level that no one else besides those sharing your burden could understand. It was a job where you swore with your entire being to protect them from harm or danger until they've grown enough to protect themselves and even when they're grown, you still found yourselves looking after them. Because that's your job. You create them; you nurture them, and you love them unconditionally because they're a part of you.

So, being a parent wasn't easy.

Especially when you made a mistake that might end up harming your child more than you realized.

Everyone was frantic.

The town was in chaos as everyone began searching for the 4-year-old child.

Dawson had left her with a trusted elder, whose name was Fiona while joining us that night to go have fun at the karaoke bar. It was later that night that he got a mind link from Fiona stating that Bea was not in her room and that she couldn't find her anywhere.

Immediately, the cops were notified, and everyone began looking for her, Dawson, Abel, and the others included.

Liza was hysterical as she joined the search for the missing little girl.

The worst part about it was that when I tried to pinpoint her location by connecting a link through one of her belongings, I was screened off. This meant that another witch had anticipated this and had cut off my probing magic.

That drove Dawson wild.

We all knew what this meant.

Bea didn't wander off on her own.

She was abducted.

My heart was a train wreck of emotions as I kept my link open to keep myself up to date with everything that was going on.

The entire town was mobilized in order to find her. Any able body joined in on the search as we made a mess of the place.

Eventually, we ventured off into the woods to continue our search, as it became clear that she had long since been taken out of the neighbourhood.

Wolves flashed by here and there as they ran about, sniffing at the air or ground in hopes of picking up Bea's scent or the scent of magic. We couldn't find anything.

I felt so helpless as I stood in the crowd of people searching. Axil, Abel, and Dawson were at the very front in their large wolf forms and leaving the rest of us who couldn't turn behind.

There wasn't anything I could do. I tried every spell that I could think of, but for some reason, nothing was working! I was completely shut off, and I had no idea how or why.

"Ezzy?" Liza asked.

I shook my head and ran a hand down my face. "I got swept up in the panic and just followed the crowd. This isn't like me."

"What do you mean?"

"All we're doing is blindly gazing at our surroundings without any clue as to where she went, what led to her disappearance, and who was within the vicinity at the time. I wanna go back to the house Bea was staying at before she disappeared."

I got up and dusted off my dress with a grimace, my mind finally clearing.

Yes, we were still wearing our dresses as we didn't have any time to change into anything more comfortable. You could imagine how much we had to suffer while looking through the woods.

Liza's eyes sparkled as she noticed the determined glint in my eyes and nodded, "We can go back to the police station where they locked Fiona and have her escort us back to the house. Should we alert Axil and the others?"

I shook my head, "Let them continue to search. If anything, Axil is aware of what I'm doing since he has a habit of living inside my head."

We walked back through the path we came and quickly arrived back at the police station. Liza stopped one of the officers and asked them to direct us towards where Fiona was being held.
