"Just as I thought. Mrs. Stark, it looks the baby doesn't want to wait and you'll have to push now."
"What!?" Nicolas asked. I just chuckled but that was short lived because another contraction hit me. The nurses put my feet up and prepped me to give birth. Nicolas grabbed my hand and squeezed it reassuringly while smiling at me. I tried to smile back but the pain was too much. Everything was happening so fast.
"Ok Mrs. Stark, I need you to start pushing for me." Dr. Holland said as he was sitting in front of me waiting for me to push. I looked up at Nicolas and he nodded at me. I pushed and it hurt so damn much. It was too late to ask for meds so I guess all this would be natural. I pushed three times before I got sick and tired of everyone yelling at me to push. I felt like they couldn't see the veins popping out of my head as I was pushing. This shit hurts.
"Come on Arianna! You're almost there baby." Nicolas yelled.
"Shut the hell up because this is all your damn fault." I said as I pushed one last time.
"Ahhh! It's a boy." Dr. Holland yelled as he held a beautiful baby boy in his hands. The nurses grabbed him and checked for a pulse and cleaned him up. Nicolas walked over to take pictures with his phone and stare at his son. I was so happy that I could cry but there was something wrong with me. I still felt like I was in labor. I started screaming and Dr. Holland checked to see what was wrong.
"I think there's another baby." I heard him whisper. He checked again. "Mrs. Stark stop pushing. The umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby's neck." He said. I felt like my world crashed down on me. I wasn't upset about being pregnant with two, in fact that might explain why I felt like I was eating more than a normal pregnant woman would, but I was upset that I might not have two kids at the end of the day.
Dr. Holland yelled orders to the nurses and I was pulled out of my nice room and into the operation room. Nicolas wasn't with me and I felt so alone. Everyone was rushing around doing things and I was lost as to what was happening. What if my baby doesn't make it? Was it my fault? This wasn't how it was supposed to happen. As I started to cry, I felt someone's lips on my forehead. I opened my tear filled eyes to see Nicolas standing next to me. The doctor gave me some medicine to numb the pain and my lower body so he could get the baby out.
"Sir I need you to step into the hall." One of the nurses asked as she snapped me out of my inner thoughts. I nodded slowly before walking out of the operation room slowly. What if this was all my fault? If I wouldn't have left her, would this have happened? I asked myself. My thoughts only got worse after I realized that she went into labor after I told her I knew about the baby or babies being mine. Maybe I should have waited. I leaned my back against the wall and slid down as he put my head into my hands. Crying for the first time since my mother died.
FLASHBACK
"Nicolas, you need to go clean your room right now!" My father yelled out into the backyard at me. I yelled "ok" back and ran in the house and upstairs. Our house was huge and in my 7 year old mind, everything was a hiding spot. I ran upstairs, past the master bedroom and two guest rooms, and straight into my room. Everything was blue and about space ships. I was completely in love with them. They were my life. Everything that dealt with space, I was fascinated by. I threw all my toys into my big toy chest and made my bed up quickly. My German Sheppard dog, Spence, decided to come in my room and lay on my bed as he watched me clean up my closet. My best friend was my dog because my dad never let me keep friends. We always moved thanks to my grandfather's growing business. My father just took over as CFO two years ago and ever since, he kept traveling, leaving me and mom at home sometimes.
