"What is it?" Axil asked.

"Listen to her heartbeat and tell me when it starts to race."

Axil's eyes shone with anticipation as he nodded and waited for me to begin.

I turned my attention back to Tiana whose face had already paled in dread. No matter how you train to keep your face blank it doesn't change the fact that your pulse picks up when you're anxious, nervous, or feeling fear.

I leaned forward slightly, my eyes swirling in curiosity, "I'm not really that familiar with werewolves besides a few commonly known facts about them so forgive me if I mix my facts up but... A main trait of werewolves is their gift from the moon goddess that we call soulmates. You were lucky enough to become a soulmate to one of them, no?"

She glared at me in defiance, refusing to answer my question. Not like I was expecting her too anyway.

"Her heart rate's higher than normal," Abel muttered.

I nodded in acknowledgement as a smirk made it across my lips, "During my time with Axil, I've learned a few things about mates, and what I find odd is when he mentioned that mates have a choice in terms of accepting their partner. From that alone, it's clear enough that a mate doesn't necessarily change their partner's personality... which is a huge contrast to your situation with your mate, and their uncle."

Her gaze shook in fear as I continued to watch her expressions intensely. Why she'd be afraid? I had no idea.

"It's getting higher," Abel noted.

"What's wrong? Why are you so afraid?" I asked inquiringly.

"Go fuck yourself," was her response.

I glanced at the chains that were tied to her hands and squinted slightly.

Tiana's body began to tremble as she stared at me in surprise, "just who are you?" she asked.

"The body we saw was indeed Dexter's body, but his mind and soul had already been taken over by another. It's a forbidden magic that the higher ups restricted as it allowed us to act in someone else's body but after we left that body, the mental realm of that person would begin to deteriorate."

"You..." Tiana trailed off with wide eyes, "only the higher ups know about this specific spell. How did you learn it? Who are you exactly!?"

A triumphant smile decorated my lips, "So I was right! Your partner in crime took over their uncle's body when his link between his pack was at its weakness so the others didn't feel any change in him at all. Was it when you rejected him? I heard rejections for a werewolf hurts like hell. You rejecting him is the only possible answer. Who's your partner?"

Her eyes glared daggers at me, "go to hell!"

I jumped in surprise as Abel suddenly came forward and grabbed a tight hold of her neck, slamming her harshly against the dirty old wall, "Who the fuck is in our uncle's body!?"
