Fortunately, but at the same time, unfortunately, Bea's mother was already injured when she was turned to stone, so she didn't last long beneath the stone and had long since died. Being beneath the stone for Bea's father weakened their bond to the point where he felt her death and grieved, but it didn't bring much pain as it would normally do a normal mate couple. So, when he was out, he had already gotten years to mull over her death and had pulled himself together for their daughter.
I guess he was one of the lucky ones.
I packed up what little Liza had brought for me and shoved everything inside my bag.
I was finally discharged today per Axil's instructions, and I had immediately gotten dressed and fixed up the room. There was no way I'd want to stay here any longer. The only solace I had was Liza bringing in KFC for me to munch on. Without her, I'd be an old withering woman with the food that this place provided.
"You ready?" I gasped in surprise and turned around to find Axil leaning against the doorframe, a bouquet of roses in his hand.
I frowned at him. "What's with the flowers?"
His lips tilted up as he pushed himself off the wall and approached me. He swooped down and wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me into a heated kiss.
I placed my hands on his chest and melted into his frame as my heart stuttered.
He pulled away and handed me the flowers with a sheepish grin on his face. "This is for you."
I took the flowers with a confused look on my face and couldn't help but ask, "Why, though?"
"Well, Abel said that a girl losing her virginity was a special moment in her life that she treasured. I kinda got trashed on for taking it from you in the woods and on the hard ground no less," he chuckled and rubbed at his neck guiltily, "So I'm trying to make it up to you. I heard you females love to be gifted flowers."
"You told Abel!?"
He tilted his head, "Is that a problem? You told Liza."
I opened and closed my mouth in surprise, not knowing what to say.
"How did you know?"
He tapped at his forehead, "I read your mind."
I frowned, "don't do that."
"Apologies. You were broadcasting your thoughts to me, so it was hard for me to ignore."
I was.... broadcasting?
I glanced down at the flowers that were in my hand and sighed. I glanced back at him and explained, "You don't need to concern yourself over taking my virginity. I was the one that pounced on you, so it obviously meant I chose to let it happen. Not all girls treasure their virginity," I shook the flowers in his face, "and you don't have to bring me flowers. What am I supposed to do with them? I can't even look after a pet, let alone flowers. These things will probably die by tomorrow. Don't waste your energy. I'm not a romantic."
He tilted his head at me, "You don't like to be doted on, precious?"
I turned to grab my bag and lifted it up over my shoulder, "No, I don't."
He came up behind me and took the bag away, leaning down to bury his face into my neck. My body shivered as I felt his warm, moist lips press against my skin, my heart racing.
"I'll dote on you anyway," he mumbled against me, then pulled away and swung his hand over my shoulder, leading me out of the room.
I didn't respond to that, but my face felt like it was burning up with embarrassment as we left the building.
"What about Liza?" I hurriedly changed subjects as we walked towards the car.
"She'll meet us there once she's done. I think it'd be best if we allowed her to come with us to the town meeting tomorrow. Although she's only human, it doesn't mean she can't contribute politically to this village. We're about to make a huge change after all."
I hummed in agreement as we got into the car. Axil threw my bag in the back seat, then hopped behind the wheel.
