Did I hear that right?
"Excuse me?" I asked.
The woman glanced at Axil and then back at me with anger filled eyes as she continued, "How can we trust your bond with our Alpha? We were literally just told you witches can take possession of another person's body."
I snorted and crossed my arms. Her blatant hostility was showing, and I wasn't the one to simply take that laying down.
"That spell is forbidden amongst our kind. What Tiana's husband did was basically overextending his life. He will suffer from the consequences when the time comes. Not only that, but Tiana and her husband are both dark witches while I am not. Don't be stupid; a bond as pure as a soul mate could never be replicated even by magic. It's a gift from a God, not a plaything."
Again, she glanced at Axil, "that still doesn't answer how you're qualified for this position."
I frowned at her wandering gaze and then shot a glance at Axil curiously. He met my gaze with steady eyes and shook his head.
"Her name is Clarissa. She was a pack warrior who I used to... mess around with in the past, but we were never serious, I promise."
My frown deepened as I watched Clarissa's hostile gaze glide across my figure.
She continued speaking, "Our pack has already been through more than enough. We don't know anything about you besides you being a witch who helped us. We can't afford a weak Luna right now."
Liza snorted as she shot a glance at me and raised a challenging eyebrow. "You really standing there silent?"
I rolled my eyes at her and shook my head at Clarissa's actions. Then I spoke, condescendingly, "Sweetie, don't do this to yourself. It's an embarrassment to us females to see you acting like this. If you want to be Luna, just say so. Don't beat around the bush. It's annoying. The man has clearly moved on, and you're still acting like you have a chance... right to my face, too. That's crazy."
I chuckled and waved a hand, my eyes suddenly turning cold as the power within me rolled and began to pour out. I directed it towards this Clarissa chick and watched as she suddenly clutched her chest and screamed.
"You're the type that I hate the most. You're all talk with nothing to back it up, and yet you waltz around the place having the audacity to dream of being in a big position. No one wants a dumbbell who points her claws at the very same person who helped her all for the sake of a man who never took her seriously. It's depressing. You downgrade yourself, and you spread your legs for any man that offers you a life of luxury, but what you don't realize is that, that life has responsibilities and duties before anything else. Someone like you who think about nothing but herself isn't qualified to be a Luna, so what you need to do is go relax yourself because I am not a pushover and you are not on my level," I released my hold over her.
"That's fucking right! Tell her like it is!"
She fell to the ground as her body began twitching, but no one came to pick her up. Instead, they avoided touching her and stared at me in both amazement and fear.
I directed my attention back to the crowd. "I admit that my past is a bit rocky, and I'd probably bring a lot of danger to this pack because of it, but I promise you that I'll do whatever I can to protect this pack and its people, starting today." I glanced across at Axil to find that his proud eyes were already fixated on me. "You can continue your meeting."
I also looked over at Axil and Abel curiously.
"It's a full moon tonight."
It's a full moon tonight
Full moon tonight
Full moon
His words echoed around the clearing and touched the ears of everyone present. The air became ripe with tension. Everyone here knew what a full moon was.
It was the time when werewolves were most primal and instinctive. The weaker the werewolf, the easier it was for them to lose control and run amuck around the town and possibly target humans.
"For the older generation, this means nothing to you. However, we have many new members who aren't familiar with their wolves yet. Thus, they've never experienced a full moon, which makes them a threat to all of us."
