Our connection was finally manifesting after years of being suppressed by our mother, and everything was slowly coming together. However, it was too slow, and it made me anxious. As the oldest, I had a duty to protect my sisters, and yet, I had no idea how the other two were doing, and little Mie was currently facing battles on her own with an unknown enemy.

We were running out of time.

The council has increased their search party in order to find us, and it's made me anxious.

My only option was to try and force the connection. I had to speed up the process of our fusion, or I had this gut feeling that something terrible would happen.

As the tiny particles of pure energy filtered into my body, blood slowly leaked from my pores, yet I clenched my teeth and held on, determined to find a connection.

I closed my eyes and looked deep into my mind and into the void where the link between my sisters and I was supposed to be.

The darkness stared back at me coldly, the silence unbelievably loud and mocking me for my futile efforts of forcing a connection.

This had to work.

It just had to.

As I circulated the energy within my body, I condensed it as much as possible and sent it through my mind, probing for any response desperately.

I got none.

My body began to tremble as I increased the amount of energy I filtered in, pain flaring across my skin as I forcibly took energy that didn't belong to me.

I pictured their faces, so similar to my own, with just a few distinctions and hoped for a response. Any response from either one of them.

Nothing.

Blood trickled from the corner of my lips as I bit my tongue out of reflex from dealing with the overwhelming pain.

I increased my absorption of energy.

Within that endless darkness, a spark flitted by quickly, but it was gone just as fast as it had come. If I wasn't so intensely focused, I would've doubted that I actually saw anything. My eyes brightened.

I took a deep breath as my body was racked with pain and prepared to absorb more energy.

A hand suddenly landed on my shoulder, forming a barrier around me, and blocking me from accessing the outside energy.

After what felt like forever, I pulled away and wiped at my tears.

"Did you hear anything from the faction yet?" I asked curiously.

He shook his head, "Not yet. They're still in the process of recruiting other witches or wizards who are opposing the council's reign. Unfortunately, our numbers are still too low. We need to hurriedly build our army as best as we could as time seems to be running out."

I nodded along in agreement and turned around to head in a certain direction.

His warning sounded out before me. "Stop trying to force a link between you and your sisters. It'll come naturally, so don't risk your life like that. Our people's legacy resides on all four of your shoulders; you need to understand that."

I waved a dismissive hand at him as I left the room, heading straight towards the training grounds to continue strengthening myself. Even with the blood that was still covering my skin, I didn't think about washing up. Only one thought was going through my mind right now.

To get stronger.

I had to get stronger to protect the ones I love and to avenge the ones I've lost. My eyes hardened in determination as the strong will to fight roared inside me like an unrivalled beast, releasing itself from its cage.

I just hoped that wherever those three were, they were preparing themselves for the shitshow that was about to unleash itself on earth.
